Does anyone else constantly read up on mental illnesses? Like it’s almost in obsession, but I wouldn’t take it that far though. What are some interesting things you’ve learned that you’d like to to share? I’d much appreciate the knowledge being shared, it’s nice not having to dig around the fluff to get the point and conclusion of the studies.
You know too much reading and you become mentally-ill yourself (right?) (a-la ‘paranoia is a reality on a finer scale’-style)
I used to do it. I used to read about psychoanalysis, Freud, Super ego, ego and all that. I even tried to diagnose myself with all that knowledge. Later some psychiatrists told me to read about clinical psychiatry instead. Since then I am reading about clinical psychiatry. I even download some interesting articles from various psychiatric web sites and give them to my doctor. But I now know that our knowledge how ever enthusiastically you read these books and articles cannot match the knowledge of the doctor. Better to concentrate on our career and those relevant books instead.

When I have been manic (while not knowing I was manic) I become totally obsessed with psychiatic diagnosis, things like SZA and SZ. I’ve spent literally days on end googling it without any sleep reading everything on the disorders. I don’t know why I do it? It’s an obsession and I get some enjoying out of it. Personally I think I’m mentally okay but my care team out see that I’m manic. I become very amimated and have neologisms and rapid thoughts flicking between different subjects very quickly. I think because I feel super great I read up on it to prolong my mania?
