Does anybody get financial support from their parents?

When I lived at home my father made me pay half my benefit money towards my keep. In today’s money that’s about £ 57 a week.

We as parents occasionally gave money to my adult son. My son is getting married and planning a wedding, also he needs to buy new furniture and a new car. We gave him 60, 000 Australian $ to cover the expenditures.

I moved out of my parents’ house at 21 and was on my own. I’m 45 now.

I don’t get help. I live completely off benefits and could get into trouble saying I got help which I don’t. My rent is cheap, only dirt poor people get rent this cheap.

I don’t see what’s so funny about that. He was struggling to pay off a bill and relative helped him. So what?

sorry, didn’t mean to cause offence, was just a playful emote because his parents are still alive and well at that age

My mom and step dad pay for everything basically, hoping I can help here soon

It’s not playful though. Don’t harass other members like that.

I’m 31 and live with my folks. I pay “rent” each month – but it’s not a whole lot. Just enough to help with bills and groceries. But they help me with A LOT of stuff – I’m grateful for them.

my folks live down the road. it’s in another town by the ocean. it’s nice there. private. there’s public walking trails out back in the woods that go back to the brook. i am pretty close to them now more than ever in my life. I don’t see money from them though. I live off my 1500 a month. I smoke two packs a day and am buying them now rather than packing them using the machine which costs 30 a week rather than 70. I am scarping by. the thing with using the machine is that one of my mental health workers thought that my cat would get sick from the loose tobacco. she’s never paid it any mind but loves snagging a tube when she can.

i rely on them for support. the reason i’m in the mental health system is that i was living with them and off my medication. it goes to court at some point again and both my parents and myself hope to win my freedom back. I’m sticking to the medication. I had all the freedom in the world with my folks back when I was young. had run of the city at 13. they got concerned about my drinking at about 27. was living back at their house. they have paid my rent before various times but otherwise i was living on my benefits. i always owned cars through them so i didn’t have to pay the insurance when i lived off just ssi. i own my current one. i have a place to live and i have medicare to insure me virtually every way.

I’m financially independent because of my disability benefits. If I were to lose them I would have to live with my mom.

But in the meantime I’m doing alright financially. I’ve even lend money to my sister for the renovation of her apartment and to my mom for the renovation of her house.

But there are some downsides to being on disability in Belgium: you can’t move abroad, you get reviews of disability, you need permission to travel, study, work or volunteer.

You get money but they control you.

That’s all I have to say today.

Here in the UK if your on disability benefits you can only leave the country for holidays for 28 days without telling them. Which sucks but I have to be back for the depot anyway.

My dad will never give me money, it is basically for me to earn if I want more than I have. He provided me with a house to live in and cars to drive and medical insurance. And I have to earn my keep around here, doing everything. We always eat good he cooks a full meal every night. my disability check comes in his name for me but he allows me to do with it basically what I want. As long as I’m earning my keep and I’m keeping them out of a nursing home which will cost him and my mother probably over seven grand a month. The work I do around the house and help my dad manage it someone would easily charge Thousands a month.
