My psychiatrist didn’t ask that specifically but she does ask how is my social and romantic life.

Yes, but I was being asked in the context of what kind of support network I had.

That is weird behaviour (to ask every time, not to ask once in a social network chat).

My psychiatrist never asked. My home aid help talks with me about my romantic life. Because I initiate that kind of talk. I know I used to be shitty in picking decent men and keeping good boundaries. And romances are a trigger. So I discuss it with them.

My first pdoc asked me this before i was diagnosed. I think having no gf was circumstantial evidence towards being schizophrenic, which i was diagnosed with shortly after.

My DR never asks about relationships :sob:

Why did you get insulted about the new doctor not asking you? Maybe he thinks your good looking.

Not the new doctor, the old one i meant!

My doctor asked me if I was heterosexual

I’ve never been asked that by a psychiatrist. Sometimes they ask if I have many friends.

In 40 years, I’ve only been asked by a psychiatrist if I dated, one time, and I said no.

I had one psychiatrist who ask me for details about my sex life with my ex-wife.

My old psychiatrist on more than one occasion said that I was a good looking guy and I should get a girlfriend. It used to embarrass me whenever she said this because of the fact it was a woman telling me this.

We talk about it. My first psychiatrist even gave me an assignment to try and get laid  I admit that was a bit weird but ah well.

In any case I think many such questions are not in any way judgemental or bad. They want to know about some ‘pillars’ that tend to support mental well-being: occupation, friendships, romantic life, other forms of meaning. For each there are of course exceptions, but in the large numbers, missing out on too many of such aspects of life tends to predict having a hard time.

When I was first meeting my new psychiatrist she was encouraging me to get out more and meet people

Now relationships are never discussed anymore at all

Long time ago when I was chronically suicidal and in the psychiatric unit in the hospital I was seen before a panel of psychiatrists and one asked me if I masturbated
