Do your parents have mental issues? Is it genetic?

im an adoptee so I dont know but I think I found a grandparent on my mothers side that was an inmate in a mental hospital

nature v nurture

too intelligent for planet earth perhaps?

I actually have no idea what type I have yet… I’m going to see someone this afternoon. I’ve been using that as a username for the past five years or so and never made the connection >.< oops… Kat is a nickname of mine, and Katatonia, unlike Catatonia, is a band… I believe they’re Swedish.

My mom probably has some personality disorder or mild bipolar but other than that I don’t know of any big mental health issues in my family.

They are in fact Welsh. The former lead singer does a good show on bbc radio 6 music. She has a strong welsh accent.

I’m actually very confused on all this to be honest. I see everyone has a family member who is schizophrenic and that would mean it is genetic but nobody who is related to me in my family has ever had this disorder. What would that mean? I’ve had it all my life as well.

Edit: Well actually my mother has Bipolar, would that affect it?

My brother had Schizophrenia. My grandmother had Alzheimers and dementia.

You don’t have to have it in your family to develop it. No one in my family that I know of has schizophrenia.

And yes, having bipolar parents increases the risk of developing both sz and bipolar.
