Hell I am not sure about statistics. Some says 50% people with schizophrenia are capable of working OR living on their own, while other statistics says that there is a minority people with SZ who works. Like 10-25%.
So, do you work or worked during your schizophrenia?

So result shows (atleast now) that most of us worked

I worked nights for about 10 years in total but after my first episode i lasted about 2 years. However i did have lots of time off because my delusions and paranoia about people talking about me and plotting against me.

I’ve been employed for the majority of the last 40 years. I’ve had many different jobs and I have been at my current job 12 years.

Have had a few different jobs since being diagnosed. And studying to go into health care. So it’s possible. Everyone is different though and on different ends of the spectrum.

I can’t work whilst medicated. Too sleepy/drowsy.

I had a few jobs post-diagnosis(barista, cleaner, retail cashier, call-center gigs) but I quit each one pre-maturely, mostly because I was exhausted from medication.

The last job I had(2 years ago), I quit because I was too paranoid to work with people.

I volunteer with seniors for now but may try and go back to work eventually.

maybe the truth is somewhere in between. because to be honest ive worked but found it difficult to keep jobs sometimes because of missed days. Maybe the average sz can work but being sick ofcourse its gonna be difficult to work a 40+ hour week especially if its physically exhuasting and theyre on meds. Thanks for the survery its interesting

I’m a senior insurance broker, commercial lines. I am also diagnosed with paranoid schizophrenia and ASD.

I’m currently unemployed due to my symptoms and other issues that happened… So, now I’m at home doing nothing. It went down hill after that, but will remain searching for new opportunity. Any way, wish all my forum friends peace and love!

Sz for 11 years, tons of jobs. Cumulatively I’ve probably worked 5 or 6 years since onset.

I have fibromyalgia and disability caused by arthritis as well as sza so I can’t work.

I work at my father’s company just part time (three days a week). And it’s flexible. Don’t think I could hold down a standard job due to fatigue, Avolition, anxiety.

No problem!
I was really interested and wanted to make this survey because statistics are so different!
Like I know most of us here could be considered highly functioning, because we came here, what means we have more or less insight into illness…
But this survey seemed interesting to do because I believe for most of us it’s harder to work not because of positive symptoms, rather negative.
Because positive symptoms are actually nr1 for losing insight… so in my personal opinion most who not work here on this forum, are not working because of cognitive or negative symptoms
