Do you want to raise dopamine?

i think i do. did a quick search for raising dopamine naturally and it says exercise, diet, tyrosine and some other stuff will give me a bit of boost.

im just not feeling that energetic is all. i do feel better after a hard workout i’ve noticed. as long as the voices don’t come back, i will try this natural approach for awhile to see if it lifts a bit of my depression.

Natural approach is good but not through drugs and supplements. SZ brains can’t handle dopamine, else you get psychotic.

Antipsychotics block dopamine to stop psychosis.

i have symptoms of lack of dopamine tho i fear to take anything that increases dopamine as increased dopamine is strongly implicated in psychosis

From what I know the dopamine effect is bell shaped, with both too little or too much causing problems .

I think I have a dopamine defieciency because I have EPS. I take some L-tyrosine each day. It gives me a little energy boost.

I want to raise it naturally through loving relationships

not through methods that are too overwhelming for the system eg drugs and binge eating

they are habit forming and the body would then consistenly ‘expect’ that same huge unnatural surge of dopamine and if not met, you feel very agitated.

this is what I need to reverse, the ‘expectation’ of binge eating in my body cos it is so used to it and begs for it when I don’t give it that

I miss my gym for the same reason, and i’m on a drug that raises dopamine (an MAO inhibitor) and one drug that regulates it (Abilify) - like @firemonkey said about to much, to little dopamine both cause problems.

I am AA for this.

rs4680 (Val158Met) is a well studied SNP in the COMT gene. The COMT gene codes for the COMT enzyme, which breaks down dopamine in the brain’s prefrontal cortex. The wild-type allele is a (G), coding for a valine amino acid; the (A) substitution polymorphism changes the amino acid to a methionine. This alters the structure of the resultant enzyme such that its activity is only 25% of the wild type. As a result, A allele carriers have more dopamine in their prefrontal cortex,
