The same is as equally applicable to you, too. At least I’m not attacking anyone
Polite disagreement, but don’t want to get into a huge scrap over it.
Lol, I’m humored you felt I was attacking you by simply calling a spade a spade-- not my intention at all.
And also, you totally called out Simone Biles, a Gold Medal gymnast, for no reason. So I think you are the one attacking others.
No worries. You don’t come across as blunt.
Sure, everyone should try their best. That said, I don’t think that depression and anxiety are things that you can stare down and push past. Sometimes people need help.
Have you stared down and pushed through everything that’s come your way in life with no help from anyone?
She’s in the public eye, so she’s open to criticism. I mean, what does that teach young women? That they can quit at the drop of the hat.
No, the people that are made at my post are mad because I called out one of societal ills; that being glorification and romanticization of a perceived victim. Everyone wants to be a victim, so they have an excuse to not work on themselves. Instead of looking inward, they look outward and perceive their troubles to be one of other people’s. When in all reality of the facts, people’s outlook is always one of oppression and perceived victimization, looking for an excuse to work on themselves. I’m sorry that you feel offended, for I did not intend for that, but at the same time, you can’t deny reality.
Your glossing over of Biles’s athletic performance issues-- simply saying she’s a quitter for choosing to work on her mental health over competing is laughable on a Schizophrenia Forum.
Firstly, Simone Biles didn’t quit-- in fact, she came back from psychological performance anxiety to win the Gold for Team USA.
Second, she has been not only a champion on the world stage for gymnastics, but also mental health difficulties-- showing others-- and yes, even young women-- that it’s okay to take a time out.
Let me ask you this: When you went through psychosis, did you not have to take a time out from life for a little while?
I think that by choosing to gloss over the facts regarding Simone Biles, as well as cognitively distancing yourself from your own illness and its difficulties, it is you who is denying reality.
The truth is, people go through shiit every day-- it’s how we bounce back that matters. So, the same way Simone Biles has bounced back to claim Gold for the United States, people suffering with mental illness can also fight adversity and beat the odds.
That’s reality.
People are not wanting to be victims? Certain Mental illness is brain abnormalities . Brain disease the Amygdala is smaller the Hippocampus is different, Prefrontal Cortex is under performing. Insula is hyperactive etc etc
Buy a book instead of all this misinformation your hypothetical about
I don’t agree with doing this,in my case. If there’s a plane accident, I need to put on my oxygen mask first, before being of help to others in the incident. Can’t get anything done if I’m not of that capability to help others.
Good analogy @Zoe
Anyways if 1 person wants such a poor perception of others not my problem!
Thanks @anon70282812
Yea I always remember that analogy ever since some1 mentioned it on this forum.
Yes this forum is useful most of the time ![]()
When I hear the term depression, I know its a serious matter. When I see/hear lively people say “Anxiety and Depression”, my arse twitches and I smell undiagnosed personality disorder lurking. Its over used by people with behavioural issues and those with poor coping strategies. Sorry, I have quite strong views on the matter. These are the folk absorbing the sparse funds we have in the community mental health system, while people with illness get the “butter spread too thin” left overs.
Thank you friend @Catman

Shame on you @Banjo
And @John_Raven
Neither of you belong in a support community with such oppressive views
I can come across as lively but I do have anxiety and mild depression. Although it’s not diagnosed. But that’s how I feel. Because I mask OK to a degree. Until I burn out.
And start crying during my lunch breaks.
But not to say that there are ppl who may lie on purpose for they think they can get away with it. Idk.
Nice you two women are supportive of one another but you haven’t liked or commented on a single thing ive put?
Anyway just an observation
We need to come to terms, that anxiety is an emotion, not an illness. Yes, a very small percentage of depression diagnosis can include Generalised Anxiety Disorder. But its so very rare. Its certainly overused in a society that points out symptoms over root cause or diagnosis. Apologies if my stance causes offence, but I come from a unique angle.
The victimhood status thing seems to be against having a bleeding heart for those that need to be shown compassion. A little sympathy is okay, it doesn’t mean people will play the card every chance, or you will become a sucker or something.
Imo, chronic anxiety is a symptom that something is not right mentally and emotionally and if it is not dealt with, it will accumulate to a more serious complication.
