Do you think people symptom shop here?

This article specifically calls out TikToc,

But I can say with certainty it happens on all social media.

Sometimes I think “stop being so judgy, mental illness is more accepted today which is why it’s such a cultural force now”.

But then I see stuff like the above article and find it disturbing and offensive.

These people have to be getting their information somewhere besides medical resources.

I’m sure they use social media to “shop” for specifics.

Do you think that happens here?

Honestly, it’d be a great place for it.

Remember the sz designer? I think zombiemombie banned her. She comes the closest to doing something like this

Oh, I remember her.

I agree.

She was using this site to her financial benefit at the very least.

Highly offensive.

Shoplift more like!

To be fair, this forum allows people who literally have no information on schizophrenia with all its symptoms a chance to recognise what it is they are actuallly suffering with.

A doctor can say you have schizophrenia to a patient but gives no information about it whasoever.

The last time I was in the psych ward there was an older lady who i was chatting to and I asked her what her diagnosis was and she said, 'Schizophrenia"and i replied, “What do you think that is?”

She went on about Split personality and I had to explain to her that is not what sz is.

Doctors can be no help whatsoever.

I often thought my book might be a good candidate for “faking illness” in sz. It explains in great detail how sz works on the deluded mind.

The idea that sz should be written on our shirts is frickin insane

That was a pretty epic forum moment.

I’d say top 15 for sure.

Someone on Reddit accused me of faking once. I just laughed lol I wish I was faking it, that’d be much easier to fix.

I had a therapist who questioned the veracity of my complaints, but by the time I got to the part of my story where my voices commanded me to urinate myself she had sort of given up rejecting my suffering

I wish I was faking, I would come off my meds

My step son has told me a lot of kids at his school try to claim they have mental illness’…

He’s 12, in middle school.

I’m glad mental illness is becoming more “accepted” I guess. But hate that now people “want” to have one

I’m sure there are people that symptom shop here…

I for sure think mental illness is ‘trendy’ in some circles.

Started off with depression/anxiety. Moved to bipolar now sz is the in thing

Like it’s exotic and mysterious!

Adds depth to your character somehow.

I worry for the children.

THE CHILDREN.

Probably. . I’ve had suspicions before. But it gets a little dicey to start accusing anyone of such when you could be wrong. These things are serious to people who suffer from them.

But yes, I’ve seen inconsistencies and other things before that made me wonder in certain cases.

I agree.

You can’t accuse people.

Memories aren’t great sometimes and we do have odd symptoms.

I have sza bipolar, but I’ve also been diagnosed multiple personality since 1993.

I went on YouTube last year looking for the videos from CTAD Clinic out of the UK, and was absolutely shocked by the number of people posting sensationalized videos about their DID.

“Switch caught on camera! Four alters on video! Kid parts on video!”

There’s one lady who makes videos all about a child alter coming out on camera.

Um, DID happens because of early trauma. It’s all about effing secrets. Contrary to shows like United States of Tara, we are not obvious about when other parts surface. It’s a big secret.

I never watched any of people who made those crazy videos, but I almost find it offensive that they think DID is this ultra cool diagnosis.

It’s freaking traumatic and disabling. Add my sza to that, and there’s no way I will ever come off disability.

AND I HATE THAT.

I’ve wondered if people on here were actually mentally ill.

I didn’t know if they were symptom shopping, or just trolling.

It is interesting how DID has come into trend.

United States of Tara was a horrible misrepresentation.

I don’t care for Diablo Cody.

I agree…… 1515151515
