Do you think it’s totally impossible for somebody with schizophrenia to fully and completely be recovered? Poll

I’ve been on this forum 16 years and have never seen anyone fit your criteria. Nor have I seen anyone successfully come off meds. People claim they’re fully recovered or successfully off meds but when they start explaining their situation it’s usually been only a couple of months or they still get residual symptoms.

It always surprises me when I hear the “1/3 statistic” claimed by some doctors or researchers or whoever they are. That 1/3 of schizophrenics fully recover, 1/3 show improvement and 1/3 don’t get better. Where are all these recovered schizophrenics? Even the success stories of people who recovered enough to work and go to school still say they have symptoms but they just manage them better. I would love to see some fully recovered schizophrenics so I know it’s possible but I’ve never seen it so far.

In some other places around the world, if you have one episode of psychosis and aren’t given any antipsychotic meds, you’ll usually completely recover and go back to normal life in time.

Chat gpt thinks there will be a substantial cure in 30 years. I think longer.

Positives you could possibly manage but the negative symptoms imo are more debilitating. A decade ago when I heard voices often and had hallucinations I was way more functional than I am now.

Well, apparently, it’s cool that people actually think somebody can fully recover from schizophrenia. I think that’s awesome.

What? I don’t believe this. From what I know, once you become psychotic, you are it for life.
