Do you think it is ok that the government makes me live off of £798 a month?

We have that in my state, but it is heavily stacked in favor of people with physical disabilities vs mental ones. My friend had a broken spine and got free tuition to get her LCSW and when I applied, they wouldn’t give me any education, and tried to set me up with a sub-minimum wage job.

They would never get away with that here. A disability is a disability. Although we have plenty of other problems in our welfare systems.

Then why can’t you pick up a part time job?

It’ll probably pay more than what you make on benefits.

Because I need to focus on college.

Yeah,

Lots of us had to work and do school.

If you’re no longer having symptoms,

You could pull it off.

I’ve tried to set up numerous appointments with my area’s rehabilitation center but no one ever gets back with me so :woman_shrugging: Looking for a job with no guidance from them, lol. Oh well, I’ve found a job without their help once; surely I can do it again.

I think some people with schizophrenia should get more money like myself. I am biased but I am really sick. I don’t know what’s worse than Matrix delusion and cannot telling what is real or not. Things have gotten much better but if you don’t have work credits in America you don’t get a lot. I appreciate stuff but I realize that government dependence causes issues like we have now. People just want chaos, big government, and free money and don’t care if it costs tens of trillions of dollars in debt. It’s stupid.

Social security is supposed to be basic and not a lifestyle but the minimum for survival.

In America, we don’t have socialism. I cannot speak for other countries, but a lot of poor countries have it worse like worse stigma, less disability benefits or no money at all. We’re lucky to live in Western society, I guess. We should be grateful and lucky. #firstworldproblems

There’s so much money going to waste it measures in the billions. I’ve seen it myself personally. I think Social security can be vastly improved and stuff. It’s almost like people rather be on disability than work and are victims of the poverty trap like I cannot have more than 2000 in assets or I lose my benefits. Some things are strange like you can have 1 car and it could be a mercedes or bmw or something (I think) but no way you could afford the gas, insurance, maintence, tags, etc. Like you can have 1 house but how can you afford to keep it up, the lights on, and the taxes? It’s nuts.

I eat a lot because I’m fat, I smoke, and I have addictions to caffeine. That’s it. Most of these problems are associated with schizophrenia and taking meds. I could definitely quit caffeine and be comfortable. But I struggle with other ■■■■. Luckily, I have parents around still.

I think social security and healthcare could be better and save money. I bet Elon Musk could fix it if he wanted to.

I’m lucky because I might get some money from a possible special needs trust I have. Not a lot but enough to supplement social security. My father is middle class but was diligent and saved money and is hard working. He doesn’t have a lot of sympathy for my illness, but he is responsible and loves me and is leaving me whatever he has when he passes some day. I am very fortunate and am lucky. Not many (most) have this. I’m by no means will be rich, but it will hopefully let me live somewhat comfortable, have food, and a roof over my head, and some entertainment. I cannot live on my own probably forever. I’ll probably live with my mom, sister, or brother.

I am grateful what I have. Not only do I have private insurance, but I got medicaid and SSI (max amount).

No, even the lecturer mentioned about not having work affecting your grades. I want to try get into the best uni I can. I am just going to have to spend my money on nothing but Bill’s and food. Even then I am going under, but I think my savings can just hold out until uni.

That’s what student loans are for. When you go to work you can pay them back.

I am going to college not uni, loans are for full time students.

If you can’t go to school full time how do you think you will work?

… I can go to school full time. I need to take a part time course to get into uni.

If you come off the government payments the course won’t be free either am I right? Because on uc… there are many course that are free

The course is not free even on benefits. I had to take out a loan. I think it gets written off though if I get into uni.

Seriously did you ask them …? Because it may well be free! Is it a community college?

I don’t understand why you’re upset.

You’re getting benefits to float you through uni,

That’s pretty sweet, regardless of what they give you.

You’re getting a lot more than people who have to work and put themselves through school.

I truly don’t understand the problem.

The problem is. I can’t work. No one will hire me because I have no work experience after sleeping 14 hours a day most of my adult life and not being able to work. I apply to clean toilets, clean dishes. They wont have any of it because I don’t have work experience. So I am going to college to make myself employable. Yet now they are treating me like a benefit scrounger and are putting me into debt. That @GoldenRex is my problem.

I’m going to start face-to-face uni in September and worry that they are going to kick me off benefits because I’m able to study. Time will tell. Wish you the best with your college course!
