I want to come off the antipsychotic altogether and go on a mood stabiliser. Because every time i try to come of the antipsychotic my mood goes funny.
Why do you want to come off the antipsychotic? Side effects? Not working sufficiently?
Talk to your pdoc on it. But most anti-psychotics are used for treating Schizophrenia and Bipolar anyway.
I had this thinking too,I might only had depression and depression that leads to paychosis…I might only need antidepressant mirtazapine and can come off abilify
@anon80629714 - if you suffer or suffered from psychosis, whether or not you have bipolar or schizoaffective it really doesn’t matter, you will most likely need a mood stabilizer and an antipsychotic.
The antipsychotic takes care of the psychosis and the mood stabilizer takes care of the mania - Abilify or Lamictal can also take care of the depression etc…
Most mood stabilizers take care of mania, except for Lithium and Lamictal - they can treat depression also.
I would talk it over with a qualified psychiatrist - a GP may not know what to do.
