Do you think Drs should stop prescribing Adderall to kids?

Its basically legal meth, amphetamines. I watched a yt video about it done by a famous neuroscientist called Dr Huberman. He said sex increases dopamine as much as cocaine but for a shorter time. Amphetamines like Adderall increase it the most, 4x more than sex and cocaine.

I watched a documentary on Netflix about this drug. Was quite interesting

Worth a look

Its probably harmful to someone still growing. Also giving it to kids isnt good because the kid never had a choice to refuse it.

What’s the name of the show?

Its has high addiction and abuse potential. There is controversies on it similar to pain narcotics.

I read amphetamine causes 4 times as much dopamine release as ritalin. Ritalin is more of a dopamine reuptake inhibitor

Yes Adderall increase dopamine much more than Ritalin. That neuroscientist said it increases dopamine in 3 ways not only reuptake inhibitor but also blocks dopamine breakdown in neurons etc

I think it shouldn’t be prescribed for kids as kids are more likely to get addicted and have less self control. I think its ok for adults under Dr supervision.

Adderall can also trigger psychosis. Stimulant psychosis its called, its common.

Yeah, as an adult I too lack self control and impulse lol.

I agree tho kids should try and work through all the psychotherapy and behavioral stuff first.

Ive read a lot about this. Heres the thing. A lot of these stimulant psychosis reports dont account for misuse or abuse of stimulant meds. A lot of students abuse them or others find out they can get high off it if they take more. Repeated use of that certainly has a higher probability of causing psychosis.

If someone has adhd, doesn’t it usually calm the person down?

Opposite of what a normal person taking it, it would act like speed.

I don’t know much about this.

:100: and I don’t believe in adhd sorry but that’s one of my few controversial takes I was on Ritalin and it made me a monster so I don’t even care if there is such a animal as adhd I don’t want anybody to go through what I went through

I read an article from a psychiatrist that also doesnt believe in it. He believed its a cluster of symptoms from the underlying illness. In that specific case he deduced it to bipolar. So his theory is stablized mood, the adhd would go away. But thats just a theory. Put in practice once mood is stable the adhd still remains untreated lol

It is all about harm reduction. Media likes to portray ADHD as a series of quirky personality traits, but it can cause severe behavioral issues. Adderal can help make those issues more manageable. It is a serious med, and the side effects should be carefully considered, but it can be life-saving.

Yes. It’s ■■■■■■ up. I was on Ritalin starting in 4th grade

All sorts of subtle effects. Brutal sensory experience

Yeah I firmly believe I have my illness due to Ritalin I tell everybody my story when it comes to Ritalin even if I look crazy it’s better than not trying to let them know the risks and I care about others safety more than I even do mine

I think Strattera should be used instead of Adderall. Its much safer as it only acts on norepinephrine.

Yeah it might work for you but for me it didn’t do anything good just side effects I hope it works for you

Edit: I misread what you said and I agree clonidine is another med that might help people idk :woman_shrugging: there are supposedly lots of non stimulants that help
