Do you take/ have you taken Abilify (aripirazole)

I mentioned, in another post, having difficulty taking my medication as prescribed. I made an appointment with my pdoc’s office and requested that I be taken off Seroquel (quetiapine) for this reason. Instead, we are considering Abilify injections. At the moment, I’m taking 5mg orally to determine whether or not I have any ill effects. From there, we’ll consider the injections. Does anyone have experience with these injections? I’m reading what I can online, but I’d love to hear about someone’s personal experience.

Thanks y’all.

I take 15mg pills.

Make sure you get blood tests every so often as it can mess with your blood sugar.

It can cause anxiety. I take L-theanine and broccoli sprout extract to counteract that and it works.

Also you might want to cut down or eliminate coffee as that can increase anxiety on Abilify.

I don’t drink any coffee. No sodas either.

I started the 400mg injection after being off Seroquel for a long time.

It made me very anxious.

They gave me meds to combat this.

I highly suspect it made me lose my hair.

About 15-20% of it.

I’m on expensive ass vitamins now and my hair is a little better, but it’ll never be like it was before abilify.

Anyway, I’m not trying to discourage you,

It’s a good medication.

Probably the best AP I’ve taken.

Abilify is not without it’s side effects though.

I take Abilify (pills and injections) since 2015 and it works. For me it works. I don’t have side effects and my life is really normal with this med. I’m also on citalopram and trazodone.

Crap, that makes me nervous. I had my hair thin out years ago. I’ve finally gotten it decently thick after some time.

I’m on trazadone, too, but I don’t feel drawn to take it like I do with quetiapine. No draw to amitriptyline, either.

I’m not the only one to experience this.

I think I had a thread or participated in a thread about abilify causing hair loss as goldenrex.

It’s probably in the archive somewhere.

I’d talk to my doctor about it.

(My doctor denied it being a possibility at all)

It may not happen to you, but it’s possible.

I’m not having problems with my hair.

I appreciate the heads up. When mine started thinning, we thought it was hypothyroidism. I tested positive; it runs in my family. It never got better on levothyroxine. When I went cold turkey on all meds, I had my thyroid tested about a year later, and it came back normal. Weird, but whatever. I love my hair now and appreciate it much more.

Maybe hair loss is diferent in men or women. Maybe men have more genetic predisposition. But I don’t know.

I’m a woman.

My hair thinned on abilify too, the pill. But abilify the pill has been absolutely amazing for me, aside from things that mean nearly nothing, compared to its functional effectiveness. Idk how similar the pill is to the injection.

You sure are. You and your perfect eyeliner.

Random, but I tried to put eyeliner on my daughter yesterday. It was nothing short of a mess. A very shaky, uneven mess. But that one eye looked okay, though.

Always the way it goes.

It’s more difficult to put on other people I think.

What really saved me was those makeup erasers.

The little stick ones?

They’re good to have around.

I’ve been on Aripiprazole since 2021 consistently.

Sometimes with Olanzapine 5mg as a sleeper tablet, then prozac and now moclobemide.

The depot is better for me, but I just didn’t like the idea of being injected so I chose to come onto tablets. People I know want me to go back on the depot.

My anxiety has gotten worse but I don’t think that was the Aripiprazole. I remember straight after I’d have the depot i’d get a rush of confidence.

I take 15mg, tried going down to 10mg but hallucinations came back.

Why am I not familiar with this? What the heck?! I’ve been using a q-tip dipped in eye makeup remover to neaten lines. Alas, that one eye need more help than that, and I couldn’t stop my hand from shaking at that point. Usually, I have a good start, but my hand shakes more the longer I hold something. Second eyes are just doomed. What brand eraser do you recommend?

@anon82218445 I prefer shots because I have no way of getting into them when I shouldn’t. I hate that weakness, but it is what it is. I just have to find ways to work around it. Having quetiapine in the house is too much.

The Neutrogena one is pretty good.

I think MAC made one that was super good,

But from what I understand is discontinued.

The trick is you gotta have the eraser open and ready for any mistakes so you can get them quickly as possible.

Did a search and found one by Stila! I love their eyeliner, liquid eyeshadow, and weird lip gloss things. I may try that one, especially since it’s mostly Stila liner I need to remove.

Now I just have to hope I can keep my hair.

Right now I’m taking these and have noticed less shedding.

Haven’t been taking them long.
