Do you struggle with your personal hygiene and household chores?

I struggle with both, regarding my home it will get to a certain level of un tidiness then I will tackle it. My personal hygiene is better as I get paranoid when out and about.

What about you? What are your struggles?

Both areas are not my forte, but I manage.

I currently live at my mom’s place and there is a cleaning lady that comes twice a week. In that regard I’m lucky.

I struggle with hygiene brushing teeth and shower I can’t explain why…

I cant care to change clothess.

Ordering food takes me a long time to concentrate and think.

But I do dishes and cook. And take out trash.

You just need to keep doing it. Even if you don’t want to.

Eventually you build the habit. But it takes longer than you think.

Thanks for this thread. its a bit of a struggle for me

Some things are too embarrassing to say but I could say I used to not brush daily. But now I floss-brush my teeth and do mouthwash every day, once or twice. It all changed when I started my vitamins. I was always aware brushing your teeth 2-3x a week only was really bad. Even though I had OK dental reports anyways. But now since taking vitamins I’m capable of brushing every day and then some. My parents did NOT teach me proper hygiene growing up and i paid for it in life. But now on vitamins and meds and a little awareness goes a long way for me. I can’t wait for next month when I return to the dentist for once.

And household chores are tough for me too. I’m very disorganized. You couldn’t ever teach me to be ON TOP of household chores except in the past when i lived with people i was pretty good but thats cuz im held responsible, and plus we split the chores so you know what youre supposed to do. I’m a chronic procrastinator in that regard when i live alone.

Thats just me though!

Not anymore, as above. You keep making it your priority and it becomes less daunting.

I read somewhere that after sz starts people become water averse and it made a lot of sense to me. For some reason I became scared of water, including showers and cleaning the sink - it’s not an issue anymore though thankfully

I used too. I never used to wash. Even now i sometimes have to force my self to have a bath sometimes. It depends on my mood. Ive been pretty good latley tho.

The cleaning i pay for to be done. ÂŁ40 quid a week for a lady to come over - she even does the ironing and changes the bed for a couple of hours a week.

When your feeling grimey and your living in a dump - its always gonna affect your mental health. Frankly it makes me depressed.

I too have a cleaning crew. But they come bi-weekly.

Lately, I’ve gotten a bit better about housework and hygiene. Ever since I’ve been making appeals about it to the Universe. It’s working!

Ha. I did that for a bit. Until i had the plumbing altered for a dishwasher.

Its best to not keep getting plates and cups out of the cupboard as well - and wash up the ones you have already used.

My dishwasher certainly broke but my buddy from AA is offering me a free installation of a “just like new” dishwasher for a good rate.

Now you remind me to ask if theres a warranty on it

I used to struggle with house hold chores but since quitting caffeine I have that extra boost and find doing chores quite pleasant

I also struggle with brushing my teeth and I’ll wear the same clothes for a week or more. I need to do better at this.

For some reason it’s still hard for me to shower. I only shower once a week and only change my clothes once a week. It’s easier for me to do chores. Mostly I just take care of the dog which is a 24/7 job.

I struggled so badly with these for so long. Hygiene got easier the first time Mr. Star told me I smelled too bad to sleep next to. He said he was going to go sleep on the couch, and I jumped up to shower right then. I still hate doing it at times, but I like the after effects of being clean.

Brushing my teeth got a lot easier after I broke 2 molars in the same week and had to pay $5k to save them. And then another $3k. And then another $9k to fix the damage to the rest of my teeth from over a decade of neglect. I now brush and floss every day, and use my retainer. Whenever I feel too tired to bother, I just think about clearing out my bank account, losing my apartment, and going into debt, and suddenly brushing my teeth doesn’t seem so hard.

Chores are a struggle for all of us, so we do them at the same time. When we see someone else working, it makes us start working too, just to mimic the social cue.

Personal hygiene and household chores are 2 of my greatest day-to-day challenges. I have to force myself to do both. Sometimes, I’m unable to force myself. So, I have to wait until I am able to force myself. Most days, I manage to floss and brush my teeth before bed. I shave and shower if I know I have to go out, because it’s just too embarrassing to go out with body odor. I admit, I don’t like doing either, but I do barely manage.

I never want to shower but when I do usually every Monday it always feels so good and I feel good when I get out but it’s not enough for me to shower more. I only shower once a week because my dad said to shower at least once a week because he and my stepmom can’t take it when I go a month or two without showering.

It’s the same thing with chores.
Right now I’m spending most of my time and energy on raising my puppy
It can be exhausting!

Some chores are more automatic for me like I don’t feel too much tension emptying the dishwasher.

Things like brushing my teeth I try to make simpler. Sometimes I will brush my teeth with no toothpaste because it takes a lot less time and it’s better than not brushing at all. If I feel a bit unbalanced to take a shower I will just wash my hair in the sink and put on deodorant. Sometimes I take a shower at the YMCA just to have some variety.

I procrastinate on doing my laundry and other things but know a lot of people even without sz struggle with these things so I try not to beat myself up over it any more. A lot of times I am just physically tired from doing a lot the day before.
