I smoke. I smoke more since I’ve been diagnosed and medicated.

The number of patients with schizophrenia who smoke is very high (see Box 1). One study reported the prevalence to be 88%, nearly three times the rate in the general population and higher than the elevated rates of smoking in patients with other psychiatric illnesses.Jan 2, 2018

I smoked for 25 years (except when pregnant) but quit last december. I lasted until the end of july and broke down and had one. Now i vape instead. Not as satisfying but at least it’s not as smelly either.

I read some articles say smoking can combat schizophrenia symptoms or something

No, I stopped smoking in 2006.

I have smoked most my life

The only vice I have left

I quit over 31 years ago. I am the only person I know who quit smoking by accident.

How did that happen???

I don’t smoke, I vape but I only vape a few times a day at 3mg so it’s low dose too

I was preoccupied with the withdrawal effects from amphetamines and alcohol and I also had no money for food as I was homeless so there was constant hunger as well. Those were more overpowering than the nicotine withdrawal. By the time I realized I had stopped smoking, the worst of the initial urges had passed.

@shutterbug wow okay… i guess that’s one way to quit lol

Yep, have since 16 years old.
Bad habit ain’t it?
I got a more serious problem right now than to quit cigarettes though so i’ll hold off on that for now.

@Putrefactio around here almost everyone over 21 smokes or vapes… even people under 21 smoke or vape and it’s considered normal… I’ve known parents that gave their kids cigarettes… mind you it is illegal but people don’t care as long as people under 21 don’t do it to much in public

It wasn’t planned. I had money for booze for drugs and cigs and then I suddenly didn’t.

@shutterbug I’ve been homeless before… for about a month… then a friend took me in since his roommate had ran off and left him holding the bag… on the condition I got a job… I then had about 8 in less than a year… he didn’t care… at least someone was paying half the rent… I eventually called my mom and got disability… now my husband and I are living with her again, trying to get him disability too
