Do you have any idea what actually schizophrenia is?

I hope one day it will be more clear why our brains become so messed up during certain age. Why we live part of the life like nornal ppl and then boom… and we have appointments at doctors

I like to say to people that schizophrenia is dreaming while awake.

It’s a simple and relatable way of describing something complex.

I believe it’s Sigmund Freud theory?
It was one of the theories which are very relatable

According to Freud psychosis was due to repressed sexuality.

He has a lot of crazy theories. I don’t know all of them but most of them are out there.

This one is indeed nonsense (about sexuality)

I remember I read strange theories created by him about family relationships. Like father-daughter or mother-son. Quite ugly theories, though I don’t know how accurate they are

Not everyone has SZ.

Maybe people experience hallucinations, mostly auditory from time to time, (actually, rarely) but it do not cause disabilities or problems in life. And they don’t need to visit doc.

Perhaps. Afterall sz means a split mind.

I think maybe everyone has some degree of split mind.

But ours is significant and thus sz.

My idea of schizophrenia is abstract form that needs to calm down and invent

Medical diagnosis nothing interesting

Some people have thin corpus callosum which causes psychosis.

My physical disability causes brain deformities in some types. I may get a brain scan soon :woman_shrugging:

I wish you the best of luck with that brain scan.

Of course, if you believe you are dealing with aliens you need to win that mind game itself and move on and recover.

Very well said @POET (you write well). I couldn’t agree more. Schizophrenia is a brain disease that can be inherited. My father and I both developed late onset schizophrenia in our 40s. Very rare birds we are. I moved into the acute phase at the peak of my career when I was under maximum stress as a result of building and managing a global financial engineering and risk management systems business. Schizophrenia swept everything away for me. Business, marriage, property and possessions, memories, capabilities, everything. I spent the next 20 + years recovering and navigating near homelessness. Schizophrenia is a brain disease and poorly understood disease at that.

I think the “longer you’re psychotic the more damage is done” is misinformation. An article of that or something would be nice.

I mean being psychotic alone is damage done, it being accumulative doesn’t seem likely in my opinion.

wow im very sorry to hear about all that bad luck that sz has cause for you. late onset seems pretty tough as it must have been confusing seeing as sz usually manifests earlier in life. I hope youre recovering and coping well. Yes theres still much for us to learn about sz. i have hope for the future generations of people with this disease.

That is the hardest aspect of changing the way or even how to perceive our own perception. I am trying to relearn at 43. Only received diagnosis/ symptoms 3 years ago.

I had my brain scanned and there was no issue.

Brain scans don’t show chemical and neurotransmitters abnormalities linked to sz.

I read that sz is 80% genetic. I think on Wikipedia. I think some drugs can trigger sz.

I had my brain scanned and there was no brain.
