That’s a very good question. It is most likely a combination of the two. Personally my problems came about from smoking weed, so I’d say more from the brain for me.
i think it can be both, mental and physical biological illness, i wouldnt go far as to say disease though, maybe its a condition, its definitely an illness
Schizophrenia is a complex brain disease that researchers suspect stem from problems in the hippocampus.
That said, I think one of the benefits of it is that people have better access to the spirit world because of it. In some cultures, schizophrenics often become shamans because of their supernatural abilities to connect with the occult.
schizophrenia is deftinitely a ‘brain’ disease, although some think it could be due to auto immune issues it prunes certain areas of the brain and is thought most likely to be due to dopemine imbalances in the brain etc…
oh and there are scans that can see this in action and blood tests are forthcoming in detecting the disease…
also there is genetic evidence etc…
in no way let people tell you ‘its all in your mind’ thats crap…
i s is the case for all so-called ‘mental illneses’ and one day this will be proven true…
You may be right Mexxem but my feeling is it’s a psychological illness.
Of course in science, all problems are material, chemical, of the brain. To a scientist all emotions are ‘just chemicals’ love hate anger fear etc. So of course to them schizophrenia is a ‘chemical problem.’
This ‘scientific’ approach to the problems of a living beings is unnatural. I would say it lacks empathy, as a psychopath lacks empathy. It’s totally unnatural, we are all living beings, not just ‘chemicals’ or atoms colliding or molecules interacting. We’re living being ffs.
If it made a cure for sz easier by imagining us as chemicals, then ok fine go ahead. But it doesn’t they don’t even know the cause of it. All the dopamine imbalance crap is guesswork. They haven’t a clue what they’re doing.
I’d say it’s more unnatural to explain living beings with concepts like the soul. The soul is trying to place humans outside of nature, while the scientific approach, even though it’s usually reductionistic, is trying to explain humans as a part of the world around us.
Finding a good explanation for a complex phenomenon takes time. They have made substantial progress.
The brain is a lot more complex than most organs of the body. Until very recently, they had no idea what causes alzheimer’s. They still don’t really know what causes headaches, either.
No, frings, I wasn’t looking for a fight. I was trying to help you not lose faith in science. Medicine has cured many diseases, and eventually, we will find a cure for this one too.
