I have aspergers too i guess, unless schizophrenics get OCD aswell. i study the hell out of surgeries and medicines recently its kinda odd, but i like to learn. Do you have intense interests?
AI and computers
Studying of medicines and such isn’t really odd, its just something that interests you.
I study the hell out of disorders, its so fascinating.
I also study older world war 1 and 2 things.
I also have other OCD tendencies (such as checking my clock about 5 times before finally believing its set)
nope, but i think this guy is obsessed with ninjas
My old pdoc said there’s a diagnosis that isn’t official yet because not enough people have it, but it’s called schizo obsessive disorder. It’s when you have schizophrenia and obsessions and compulsions. He said technically that’s what I have because I have obsessions. When I was a teenager I would check things and I had this obsession with germs. I used to wash my hands raw. Now my only compulsion is smoking.
As far as being obsessed with things I get really interested in lectures on computer programming and quantum mechanics. I’ve also been obsessed with Buddhism. I like topics that make you think.
@Peavy There’s a technique I use that helped me stop checking. When you do something you would normally check be very mindful the first time you do it. Take a mental photograph of yourself doing it. When you feel the urge to check it, recall that mental image and trust it. I used to obsess over leaving the iron plugged in or if I had shut the stove off and that technique helped me stop doing it.
I already do try that, it works at times but its still hard to fight. I use my iPod touch for my alarm clock as well.
If I set it down to fast and it clicks than I have to check it again, regardless how many times I checked it before. If it doesn’t click against the table than I have more of a chance of being able to ignore it.
oh i just remembered in my teens i had 2 ocd things,
checking the water tap is turned of by checking underneath the spout or turning the handle, 3 times minimum, and if i did more than 3 times i would do it again. i even broke the handle off one time i did it so hard.
also use to check the heater 3 times minimum to make sure nothing was near it
they went away though
I have obsesive thinking and analyzing but its constant.
not many people have it, so i remain paychotic disorder NOS
I have OCD and its also common with bipolar disorder - I tend to have obsessions and intrusive images and thinking - I also have worries and fears. I have compulsions also but my primary symptoms are obsessions.
I check the doors constantly before I sleep to see if they are locked, I place my shoes a certain way before I sleep or I will think something bad will happen to me etc… My current pdoc knew that I had OCD right away - I guess it is apparent in me - I guess I tend to shoot for perfection
