I have a hard time with the entire shopping experience.
Parking and walking into a store - ordering or buying what I want.
Dealing with the other customers and trying to handle my payment options and dealing with the cashiers.
All of these things are really difficult for me to manage.
The bigger the store the more overwhelming I get!
Do you easily get overwhelmed shopping or picking up something at a store, no matter the size?
I really like grocery shopping. I go early in the morning when the shop isn’t so busy and take my time looking at products. I also often get a coffee when I’m finished as there is a cafe in my local grocery store.
I like shopping, too, cuz it means I have money! But really, I understand how you feel about the experience…it really wears me out. I usually shop at around 1-2 in the morning cuz there’s less people to deal with. I use to feel the same way driving in big cities like Tampa and Birmingham…all those quick exits, bad drivers, and cloverleaf highways just overwhelmed me with too much to pay attention to. Friday evening shopping at Wal Mart is like that, with too many people, too much noise.
I have to admit, too, that when I’m overwhelmed with all that stimuli that sometimes my filters fail and I might either find myself cursing a little too loud or giving people advice on how to get their kids to behave…nothing really bad but totally inappropriate for a store. Then I feel dumb and embarrassed Added: Once at Wal Mart I saw a cop and said really loud “10-81!”… that’s the local police code for “break time, donuts”. How I cringed afterwards!
i like going to the grocery store but i hated it when my meds weren’t working because i would feel so uncormfortable hearing people talking about me the whole time i am shopping it made it hard to get what i need but now i make a list and try to get in and out fast
As a transman, I always noticed I was a “male” shopper…you know, make a list, go in and get the things on the list, go out…I used to go nuts when my mom would do “female” shopping…make a list, ignore the list, and wander down EVERY aisle browsing just to see what deals they had, what she might cook if it’s on sale, buy things for Christmas dinner of 2031, then go look at the underwear section even tho none of us needed underwear. A 15 minute shopping expedition took 2 hours. Then we’d get home with 10 bags of stuff and none of it was on the list.
I do it…but I’m an express shopper! I got in quick and hit the aisles hard…grab the gear then straight to self checkout or the express checkout…I don’t run the household at the moment…but if I do then the pattern remains!
