Do you have a good memory?

I don’t have one…

Wished I could forget every last detail of my life.
Funny thing is, no one else recalls the details of the events they participated in.

My short term memory is not good.
Long-term is okay.

I have an eidetic memory… it’s a total pain in the ass, but the secondary sensing of things is neat.

The worst mistake I can make is sit there and review all the white lies, lies, and moments of being blatantly ignored in my life.

Thankfully, I met enough friends who struggle similarly.

Good memory I think prompts a stronger need for consistency and placidity in life. Want it to be smooth cause no bumps go unnoticed.

That said it’s also my best weapon against my illness. At this point I’m always only 5 minutes away from the appropriate thinking which destroy the strength of the psychotic illness… The tape real clicked out and started to play in reverse… I’ve seen most all of what my mind can throw at me.

I have a good long term memory, but my short term memory is pretty bad. In psychology class at school they gave us a list of words with no type of relation to each other. We were supposed to remember as many of those words as we could in a short amount of time - two or three minutes. Only one person in a class of about thirty-five people was worse than me. That type of memory is very poor for me. You’d think they might measure that as a form of intelligence, but I’ve never seen that kind of task on an IQ test.

Now let me dream for a while about having eidetic memory :sob:

My memory is not good.

Both short term and long term. I feel like I’ve lost a lot of memories. Remembering things before my psychosis is hard. It feels like a million years ago.

My working memory also took a big hit. This is the one that makes my job so hard.

I think I have a good memory but I think my memory works a bit different than most people’s. Im a visual learner, so I usually associate an idea with a particular image or place I have seen so once I set something in my memory if I can put myself back in that place again mentally it helps me to remember things about that concept.

I cannot remember things that have no context in other words. If it is new or I can not associate it with something in some way I cannot remember it, like names I’m horrible with, dates I can’t remember

It’s still good enough to function as I remember appointment times, times to pay bills, meetings with family members, what time to take meds generally, and what meds to take, but the memories of times past are beginning to fade away, I tend to forget birthdays, and I no longer remember dreams like I used to. Part of the memory is designed to be lost as a result of the prazosin which handles traumatic memories well, but the memory loss is slowly getting problematic at times. I used to remember all the details of troubling memories, and long ago news stories that made history easy to pass. However those memories are fading now.

I’m weird, my long term memory tends to be good, and I remember weird random details of things I read/see/hear, but then will ditz out over something else. So bad short term recall I’d say at the very least, and maybe a bit absentminded.

Talking about memory.
