Do you feel like you should hide your political beliefs

A family friend is paying for my daughter’s college and her car. He threatened to stop helping her if she votes democratically. She doesn’t vote so it doesn’t matter, but people can be really nasty when views differ. It’s ok to keep it to yourself.

If you get upset when people don’t agree with your political beliefs,

Then it’s probably best to keep them to yourself.

My dad and I are at polar ends of the political spectrum,

But we have constructive talks and respectful debates all the time.

It’s possible to do that.

The funny thing is the medical school where I was originally diagnosed SzA no longer takes schizophrenia people in their clinic. I go to a charitable not-for-profit clinic that treats people with severe and persistent mental illness. If they go out of business my only choice is Baptist Health, due to my transportation situation.

No one is discussing actual politics here. it’s if people should hide their leanings, which isn’t against the rules.

About votes mattering…not really. Not in the presidential election. That’s because of the electoral college.

They can go against the popular vote of their area. Faithless electors is what it is called.

I have no faith in presidential elections at all due to that. I will still vote, because if I don’t then I have no right to complain if I don’t agree with anything later.

I learned never discuss politics or make jokes about politicians where I work. I work in an army reserve building and the soldiers take that stuff seriously, which is understandable.

I made my sisters mad when I told them maybe Joe Biden would not make the best president. I told them that he may be the lesser of two evils but he’s old and I’ve watched too many gaffe videos to count on YouTube and it makes me question his competency. Man, both my sisters were pissed off when I told them that.

I gave up on politics…the country is going downhill whether it’s democrat or republican…nothing constructive will be built when both parties tear down what the previous president did.

I learned not to discuss politics with others.

This was a legislature race that’s close, not President. I voted with my sister in that one.

I don’t really hide my political beliefs though on FB I’ll spout a little. Even in my own family I learned to keep this stuff to yourself whether you agree or disagree. Imho.

It is absolutely possible, and I am capable. But to be clear, I am not capable of having an unemotional and calm debate over matters pertaining to human rights. A lot of people think that the topic “Is @Ninjastar a human being who deserves rights?” is a political debate that they can calmly discuss the pros and cons of. I will never be able to do that.

Absolutely agree. When human rights are involved the calmness disappears

I am not that educated about politics.

I don’t know much about politics but I do know I vote for the animals and environment which is considered left.

The person I love most is really all the way out there almost right winged.
I regret leaving but I left for the animals, to be vegan and cause I didn’t want to look the other way regarding glue traps etc

My father is a Pauline Hanson fan and would vote for her but doesn’t go that far right.

My father has said many politically incorrect things that are not very nice and he can be hateful to certain types of people.

My father and x hate who I voted for.

I don’t feel like I have to hide where I vote but I do love right winged people more than left winged people it seems.

I can dislike left or mid winged politicians yet agree with them but I vote for someone I don’t like but agree with or someone I love but don’t agree with…

Sucks that there are not left winged politicians I favour.

I love Australia’s prime minister but I voted greens.

Other than that I don’t know of politicians but the ones I agree with can seem not so charismatic etc

Or likeable.

I love a right winged famous politician and I think his opposition is un charismatic and not likeable yet I agree with his politics.
Would I vote for the one I love or dislike …
How can you favour someone you disagree with and dislike someone you agree with.
So vote for someone you don’t think you like .

I left the person I love most because of politics?
Animals n environment…

I would move back in a heart beat if he could agree to disagree and find nicer ways to kill mice and let me eat as I please.

Some celebrities are saying who they vote for in public and some fans become less keen on them for it.

I am a fan of right winged one I disagree with.

I’m middle-of-the-road politically and joined the party where I best fit in in my state (USA). I try to pick out moderate candidates as best as I can, and not vote in races where I don’t like any of them. Judges and City Directors don’t run affiliated to any political party.

According to a law website they have to count your vote, even if you don’t pick one in certain races.

The race my sister and I aren’t speaking to each other over is between a defund the police candidate and a law and order candidate. We each support a different candidate.

They are tied because we had a police shooting here.

Well, it’s difficult to hide your political leanings when you’re standing up against fascist thugs in the public sphere. Militancy and activism (all in the past now) take you down a completely different road altogether.

Well I probably shouldn’t have mentioned it. It’s just hard for others to understand why I’m upset and my sister is upset without saying.
