I don’t want to share mine with anyone now. The people I’m around have the opposite beliefs and get nasty about it. I told my sister who I voted for and she threatened to disown me.
No. Just hang around with people of your stripe. Don’t let people bully you into political submission with cancellation.
These people aren’t firing on all cylinders, they don’t really embody the spirit of liberty. The idea that “I don’t agree with what you say, but I will defend to the death your right to say it.”
They’re more like “I don’t agree with what you say, so I will do everything in my power to make you an un-person.”
Politics bring out the spleen in everyone. A sure way to ruin a part is to talk about politics.
Especially to talk about politics on this forum.
I do try to hide my political beliefs. I have extrinsic motivation to do that, because it is against my religion to get very involved in politics.
Sometimes I let some of my planning slip out around my closest relatives. Like, if X candidate wins, I think I’d better start learning X language.
I live in a region where it seems like 80% of the residents are diametrically opposed to me on the political spectrum. Ugh.
So, yes, for the most part I keep my politics to myself. I’m afraid if I reveal my true stripes, I’ll face discrimination, even persecution, at work. I only reveal my real political beliefs to people I can trust, or share a significant portion of my beliefs.
I sure don’t need to get into barbed debates all the time…
Yes, people get too winded up for politics, better to stay neutral and hide it and get along with everyone.
Following your advice, I should stay in the state I currently live in (USA). The majority of those that live here share my beliefs. It’s just that the particular district I live in are closer to the state my sister lives in. She lives in a state that shares her beliefs too.
I gotten in more trouble for my political beliefs than I did being gay. No one in my family threatened to disinherit me for being gay.
I was raised in a nonreligious family, so that didn’t get in the way.
Forget political beliefs, you can’t even mention you’re a landlord these days.
i always say i am with regime even if i am not with some of its deeds
i just dont care
i wanna be safe my topest priority
Forget landlord, people get upset if you mention you are a member of Mensa!
That’s an amazing accomplishment. Congratulations to you for this!
Oh, thanks. One out of 50 people can do it, in theory. I don’t talk about it much, though.
Well… I have no political beliefs since I’m a bit absent minded with politics… But if I did yea I would just say. My friends and family aren’t gonna get nasty
I think people are mostly uneducated on how each government actually works, I know I am and I think it’s meant to be that way. So people direct their anger of the government to each other.
The post has been flagged, as I understand it and thus any political views are admonished.
I am not allowed to discuss politics on this site. If I spouted anti-capitalist views I’m sure some cry baby would flag it, as people are so helplessly brainwashed and inured to the system, even if they held contradictory views to a system based on exploitation.
The only thing I’m going to say about voting is that it’s nice when the race is close and your vote is really going to matter.
The only reason I live where I live is that psychiatric care that I need is available along with transportation means and affordable housing.
