A couple days ago I was at my sisters with my dad delivering some food. While there, my sisters semi new husband was claiming that Facebook(yes, I know they have a new name, but its like renaming cheese as bologna IMO) listens in on you on your phone, even when its not being talked on. He was talking about stuff like, say you talk about a toilet and then Facebook has an ad for a toilet on your homepage.
I have heard this claim before, but had dismissed it out of hand because I was like, does Facebook really have the resources to monitor all these millions of peoples every word and adjust their Facebook pages accordingly? I mean…how many people really work there?
I’ve considered the possibility since then that it might be possible if they were using a program to do such…maybe even AI.
Facebook(Ok, fine. Meta) flatly denies that they are doing this, but many people believe they are nonetheless.
I know your internet activity influences Facebook but just talking near your phone?
What’s your opinion on this topic?
P.S. I am not out to make anyone paranoid here, so I hope this topic doesn’t.
Yeah, there is no doubt that they know that kind of stuff. Back when I was frequently buying guitars there were always ads for guitars and music suppliers on my homepage.
Discussing this topic reminds me that, if anyone didn’t know, all these social media CEO’s recently were forced to testify about child safety before the Senate.
Btw, my opinion on the original topic is still that they probably aren’t listening to you talk on your phone. Not only would it be a huge undertaking, but it would likely be illegal.
Nonetheless, hearing someone who is pretty intelligent and all the other claims out there by intelligent people makes you wonder if it isnt possible.
Obviously, because of the potential problems with this on a sz forum we dont want to go to far into that. I did watch that film like 10 years ago though and dont remember all the details.
I do remember who directed it though. Oliver Stone is known for taking liberties like he did with JFK, so I would not trust everything in it.
Anywhoo, Facebook is a company and not a government agency. They could be held responsible if they were doing such.
I having a feeling I am going to have to close this thread soon
I know for a fact discord does. I got a notification recently where it describes in detail what people are talking about in the chat I assume by analyzing it with a.i.
I got a notification that said “so and so are talking about singing and music making.”
So these companies are definitely analyzing our texts. Confirmed beyond a reasonable doubt. I believe they also do this with audio but I haven’t look into it first hand.
well, who needs to be listened to for sure, and so bots prowl programmed for certain information and if they encounter it, they tell people, well, even commercial bots they collect information about needs
