Do they know yet what causes schizophrenia?

Is there a main cause? Its weird like health professionals dont want to call it schizophrenia to my face. As if Bipolar is somehow a better illness. Its upsetting to me as I have never had issues with depression mania or with emotional problems but have off/on been labeled bipolar alongside this disease. I could say the schizophrenia did seem to correlate with severe depression but the schizophrenia was creating the depression. I dont know how to make sense of it anymore. I dont think its depression–my fam agrees–its more like autism spectrum. I just dont experience emotions the way others do but i do have empathy, I dont laugh at funerals–I dont cry for no reason. I dont have mood swings, im often apathetic flat and have no moods so why do they keep saying its bipolar as if bipolar is better than schizophrenia.

Autism spectrum, possible high functional autism–seasonal affective–borderline maybe. Paranoid issues. those are my self-described symptoms however its also hard to know when I have not had a return of symptoms in over 10 years and I am always on the medication which works.

I think it’s all genetics it can be brought on by weed or psychedelics but I believe it will happen either way if you are born at risk of it.

Mine was definitely drugs. Probably the insane amount of weed I was smoking the summer I started showing symptoms

I didn’t do drugs, caffeine the only real thing in my system just genetics I guess. My granny has mood stability problems n takes something for em. My mom says my aunt had trouble learning might have had something wrong with her.

I guess that’s the best I got for reasons.

The anecdotal evidence of childhood trauma is impossible for me to ignore.

The exact causes of schizophrenia are unknown. Research suggests a combination of physical, genetic, psychological and environmental factors can make a person more likely to develop the condition. Some people may be prone to schizophrenia, and a stressful or emotional life event might trigger a psychotic episode.
