Do antipsychotics increase the risk of dementia, Parkinson and Alzheimers since they lower dopamine?

I sure hope they don’t… if there was clear evidence they did, I would probably stop taking my Olanzapine.

I thought that prognosis was better than normal. ie…you got psychotic illness you have way less chance of getting dementia. I will try to look that up but sure I’ve heard that.

Do they lower or or do they inhibit the dopaminergic parts of brain to produce new ones?

I already have a disease similar to Parkinson’s and tbh I had had been taken aps for 5 years until I got diagnosed with my condition. They’re completely unrelated and Parkinson’s is often due to a genetic cause. I also take levodopa for my condition and they don’t interact with my aps at all.

I heard of that some patients got Parkinsons due to the antipsychotics.

You can get parkinsons symptoms for sure. I don’t think you actually get parkinsons. Correct me if I’m wrong.

I asked my doc if the Ap’s cause memory issues and he said no.

It’s weird because I have severe memory impairment. I have forgotten words, stuff I did in school, how to get to places, I have issues recognizing people and so on.

Perhaps it’s just this dumb illness, I dunno??

My grandad had Parkinson’s. Not nice at all to see him go through that as a child.

He died when he was 65

Don’t worry as by the time you are likely to develop Alzheimers, Parkinson’s and dementia we will most likely be dead anyway from coronary heart disease or the likes of!
