I live on my own and I have been since November. I try to keep things orderly and to vacuum and wipe down the bathroom in scrubby bubbles and the kitchen in that kitchen version of scrubby bubbles (name eludes me). I periodically mop, too. I’m pretty consistent cleaning the bathroom, like the toilet gets scrubbed (multiple times) daily…but the dishes.
But. The. Dishes.
I haven’t had an empty sink in months. I keep washing half or most of the dishes, then I cook, then they start piling up again. I started washing in little 20 to 30 minute shifts thanks to good advice here on forum, but it’s not enough, even if I wash twice a day. It’s embarrassing having company over, because I read on facebook that normals are disgusted by this sort of thing. They want a dishless sink and like clean, mopped floors 24-7 or whenever they’re about to come over. I just don’t like getting my hands wet. Or handling food debris. Or standing at the sink for long periods of time. Just the concept of washing dirty dishes gets my skin crawling.
What are some chores that are difficult for you guys?
I learned that some of the things that help are to do as a forum member said and wash in little, short shifts, to listen to music loudly, to give myself some kind of tea as a treat in a cup I washed, and to invite a friend over later that day to pressure myself into washing.
you know I would love to give you some advice and some lovely words of wisdom but I’m with you I hate the dishes. I used to have my husband trained to do them but he would only do them after they stacked up. I don’t like that so I just do a few at a time like you do and that just has to be fine. I also can’t stand the food debris, it’s just nasty. People are supposed to rinse and stack, but it seems like everyone forgets or gets lazy. I swear I’m going to get paper dishes so they can just get tossed out. Good luck to you and me lol
I find it curious that you can clean the toilet daily, though. That’s where the microbes and bacteria like to gather for a party. In comparison, doing the dishes should feel like a stroll in the park. At least imo…
I clean but my place looks messy, I hate cleaning and I never have company so no worries there.
Everything gets cleaned at my place eventually, one day the light hits it the right way and I look and OMG and get to it, Dishes are done everyday as food waste can attract bugs, and I’m the same as you the bathroom is the cleanest room in the house.
Its funny how we can single one thing out like that.
I clean too frequently and its a problem in my life. I can’t tell you how the stress of not being able to wash the cloths I am currently wearing so that all of my cloths can be perfectly clean at the same time weighs on my psyche EVERYDAY.
Its weird.
However, even I seem to ignore certain messes and refuse to deal with them. I have a basket full of receipts I need to organize and I’ve been actively refusing to do it for a couple weeks. Its in plain view right now, but I know I won’t fix them.
I think what happens is, we make it into such a big deal in our brains, then we start to dread it, the mess gets worse, it stresses us out, now we’ve got some sort of vendetta against doing it.
Good times, well I’m off to do those receipts! Just kidding!
The maintenance man came and fixed the kitchen sink so I had no excuse not to do the dishes, lol oh well, it feels good to have a clean kitchen to cook in. I’m making minestrone soup today for my first try. The boys seem excited for something new
Buy some kitchen gloves to wash the dishes with. Then you don’t get your hands wet or touch food debris. Also, you can rinse and wash in really hot water so they come clean easier.
