I have just been awarded disability after about a year of waiting. I live in the US and they are saying that I will need a representative payee to get my checks. I will be having them sent to my mom since I live with my parents. I have read on some websites that you are only supposed to spend it on things like food and shelter but my parents already provide me with all that. The websites said that they have to keep track of what they spend it on and send it in at the end of the year. Since all my expenses are already being paid for am I going to get in trouble if I go out and spend it on a TV and a nintendo or something like that. Does anyone know if they really enforce it? I don’t want to screw up my disability but I’ve been broke for over a year and would like to spend some money on some stuff to entertain myself since I’m usually stuck at home.

I’m fairly sure you can spend it on what you want.
