Difficulty speaking on Risperdal

Many times I’ll slur my speech or I’ll have a difficult time searching for the correct word, I will have trouble remembering certain words and I’ll struggle with focus and attention.

Also my voice will become faint.

I’m pretty sure it’s the Risperdal doing this to me.
Difficulty speaking is a side effect of Risperdal.

I especially notice this at night.

Going to bring it up to my psychiatrist and see what she thinks.

I got this with and without meds. I have it with every med. Its bad working memory, cognitive symptoms. I talk with my brothers and forget my point in the middle of the conversation. I sometimes remember long time after they’re gone. I feel like I am over 80 y.o. but I am only 30 y.o.

Is that something new or you didn’t have it before Risperdal?

Definitely. That can happen. I hope it isn’t permanent. :slightly_frowning_face:

I was on Risperdal for many years but never had this problem in the past.
This is more of a recent issue.

God I hope it’s not dementia.

Dementia runs in my family.

Ask your psychiatrist he may refer you to a neuropsychologist to test you. I was tested IQ in mental hospital, I was below average.

I have this also on risperdal, but I noticed it was even worse without medication. Either way, it sucks.

I’m trying to remember if I was like this when I was off my meds 4 years ago.
I don’t really remember it being this bad like it is now.
Maybe it’s because I’m too sedated.

I was off meds just two years ago, so I remember quite vividly. I basically wouldn’t talk at all back then. But I also had this issue on abilify, so I don’t know if this is a side effect or a symptom. Anyway, I hope we both can get past this.

Yea it was worse too without meds, I get catatonia whenever I stop my meds. I freeze a lot without moving for minutes.

I haven’t ever stopped meds during my time with them, but I imagine I’ll go catatonic again if I ever did.

For me it could be permanent brain damage after my 2 psychotic breaks in 2016.
I don’t think I fully recovered.

I hope it isn’t permanent either @anon78876561

When on risperdal I had something like that. It was like I was in conversations and I knew I needed to respond to people but my mind was just blank. It was very unnerving and after getting raised prolactin decided to change to zyprexa. Good thing to bring up with your doc.

Yeah, maybe the dose is too high.

Yes I’ll see if it’s the dosage

I had difficulty speaking on both Risperdol and Invega. So I know how it is like. Definitely bring it to your Pdoc.

small dose of ADs may help, maybe it is due to the binding of the 5HT2a action from the risperidone, just disucsss with your pdoc
