Do you have cognitive symptoms (problems with memory, attention and concentration)?
i did really bad from risperdone, im ome month off the medicine and its slowly comeing back but its very slow. i think part of it had to do more with my adrenals being played with on the meds or maybe even the hormones. i can focus on reading and stuff but brain damage from risperdal caused mental blocks with minor activities like applications online or stuff like that hard to reign myself in, causes sadness too because it like i dont have a reward system anymore for the satisfaction of completing a task. where as before i could easily complete tasks, they make you feel good about yourself… but now doing dishes or cleaning my room is torture to get through and no reward feelings of satisfaction for toughing through it
Yes and No. They are lifelong symptoms of Attention Deficit Disorder and dyscalculia rather than symptoms of Sz. I was more often than not hyper focused when symptomatic…sure it may have been a little distracting having bizarre thoughts talking to me in my mind but since those got gone all I’ve got left is the ADD and dyscalculia (which actually has an effect on far more than just doing math)
I’m using risperidone 6 mg daily.
It affects much the cognitive part in most people?
I did a test once and the result was a high probability of ADHD.
What are the main symptoms, so I can differentiate from schizophrenia itself?
Just from being diagnosed as Disorganized Schizophrenia, I think memory loss is reasonably considered a symptom due to the diagnosis itself. But as far as medications go, the only medicine that makes my memory get bad is the benzo class.
all these meds technically cause brain damage. risperdone causes pituatary tumors. schizophrenia is supposedly cause of cognitive part too because like even though you might not hear the voices they might be there slightly messing up your subconcious still distracting you without actually saying anything.
i personally believe its the meds because at least for me there is a noticeable decrease in concentration as the med got into my system and started to work. as i got off the med i can feel the concentration slowly improve.
med companies like to blame all side effects of these poisons on the disease which pisses me off.
I have pretty bad memory problems, and I tend to get confused and not know what I’m supposed to be doing. This happened this morning, I was getting ready to go get a blood test done, and I suddenly had no idea what my next step should be. I stood there, trying to make sense of it all, but I was just totally lost. My mother, who was talking to me at the time, thought I was mad at her, but I was just trying to concentrate. Eventually I hesitantly started toward the door, and just left, but I forgot to bring a bill with me that I had to pay, but at least I got the bloodwork done!
I once was driving to work and moved the sun visor up and it was like a wave of something flushed over me and I forgot what I was doing and where I was and everything. Never thought about it until now how dangerous that could have been. Someone delusional in their car driving haha.
Confusion would happen with me when i was using sleeping pill( ambien)
Many of the things are related to meds. Every med effects a person differently
I’ve had confusion and memory problems since before I was on any meds, though. They haven’t helped, but the symptoms have always been there.

Here I found this:
“Attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) is a problem of not being able to focus, being overactive, not being able control behavior, or a combination of these”
However it may be next to impossible to distinguish. It was possible for myself as I was formally diagnosed at age 7 and did not experience Sz until my 20’s. With me they actually took the H out too…I was told I was way too laid back to be hyperactive…I think my hyperactivity was in my mind however and not manifesting it’s self in running up the walls or anything.
Before I was diagnosed with Disorganized Schizophrenia I was diagnosed with OCD, which he explained as being OCD without the compulsions, meaning my mind would race a million miles per minute and I would obsess over everything. Now that I think about it, my memory problems didn’t really start getting worse until I was taking 1800mg of Neurontin every day prescribed by my neuropsychiatrist. Glad I got off that stuff. It really wonked me out and made me loopy.
I also have obsessive thoughts, along with the voices.
Main ones are organisation and planning. Generally my cognitive abilities take a nose dive when I’m stressed.
Memory wise I do better long term than short term. I would make a bad eye witness to a crime.
I’ve had awful cognitive issues, and I fact just failed a professional exam I should have passed no problem. I have to take it again in 6 weeks and I’m terrified I’ll flunk it again.
Have you ever taken any diagnostic tests? Like a few years ago it came up with anxiety and ocd with psychotic features, but the recent ones I took labeled me as highly psychotic. These tests may help you get a proper diagnosis and ocd may be a part of them. Then you can work with your therapist or a behavioral therapist to work on correcting your symptoms.
Yup, I have problems with memory, attention and concentration. I would be really pissed about it (I worked sooooo hard in school to do well in life!), but then I’d have yet another problem (anger), lol.
Well its always possible to have overlapping mental illnesses. I doubt you would be the first person with ADD and Schizophrenia together.
