In a small or little town you may meet people whom you have met at the psych ward more often than in big cities, just by going to a grocery store I met one who had been recently released from the psych ward. People are so much closer in small towns than big cities, which may be good or bad. In really small towns all people are a big family and all problems are problems of the whole community. Of course, in bigger cities there may be more privacy and so on.
I’ve only known bigger cities. I like the feeling of being anonymous and knowing that because it’s a big city, people are caught up in just getting through their day. I’m one OF a million not one IN a million… no one is watching me… I’m not that important.
Plus I feel there are more resources in the big city. There are more hospitals closer in then in a small town.
The University has a research center for mental illness so a lot of people are educated on mental illness at least a little. There are a lot of support groups in a big city…
I take my resources for granted I know. It will blow me away when I see people post here that their doc is two hours away… that to me is mind blowing.
Mine is a 15 minute bus ride away.
In some little towns such as mine have their own hospitals with all departments including the psych clinic and the psych ward, so resources are very close, I feel it is nice to chat in the physical life with people who have same issues, in my little town I know that there are people who know every psych nurse and doc by their names. In my society there are bigger university hospitals relatively close and then there are mental hospitals operating near these university hospitals. All these create the environment of a big city while living in a small town.
