Amongst urban people who live in big busy cities as opposed to people who live in small quiet rural places?
Personally I would think that big cities generate more cases of mental illness because people are beeing stressed out by a busy environment and there are a lot more interaction and confrontation between people who are very different. I haven’t seen any studies on the topic though.
Sounds plausible. One thing about people living in rural areas. Might be harder for people in rural settings to get treatment though so more untreated people. Which means while people in urban areas might see a therapist about anxiety or depression and stuff and get treated and go their merry way and not need any more treatment. People in the country may have a lingering mental illness.
Yeah, about 30 000 in the suburban parts where I live, but I work in the city nowadays, and at the time of my first psychosis I was living in the city.
I don’t know about that. If someone goes into psychosis even in the countryside their family or friends will recognize that they need professional help and will at least have to get in touch with their doctor to help and then the person will be diagnosed.
yeah you may be right. another thing to consider is cultural differences between city and rural folks as to if one group is less likely to seek treatment.
Personally, I found cities more stressfull, but ive pretty much always lived near or in cities, so i dont know for certain. Its probably different for everyone.
