Did you find high school a toxic environment

it was for me…should have been in therapy since age 12…schools are such f*ck ups

I guess you could call it toxic when you’re badly verbally bullied in the British equivalent .

A classroom of boys directing monkey chants at you while you’re waiting for a geography teacher to take a class is quite toxic I would say .

I hated school.

I was part of a group of misfits and drug addicts and we pretty much ditched school by the age of 13 and didn’t bother to show up to a lot of classes.

The bullying was relentless, and I used to get beaten up a lot as I was a skinny runt with no muscles and the people into sports etc feel the need to mistreat me and many others.

If I had been homeschooled my life might have been very different

School was great. I miss life being care free and having no responsibilities. Kids are normally pretty mean about each other sometimes. It never bothered me back then though

My high school was very bad. Police was there often for drugs and crimes. Condoms were on the ground outside around. I can’t believe underage students had sex outside publicly. Once many policemans with dogs searched all the school and lockers for drugs. Another time police emptied the school saying there might be a bomb and a plot to assassinate the director.

I still managed to get top grades at the time and got in university. College and university were much better for me, no issues, no police and clean.

i see a lot of negatives from school years. but im not traumatized by it, i was mildly popular as i was good at sports, but mostly stuck to the same small group of friends. my mom was an educator and she is all about school. it’s a major difference between the two of us personality wise. sometimes i think she never grew up and is stuck in school mentality, thinking it’s soo important. i much prefer being an adult, but do plan on going back and getting a college education, mostly online. im doing it for a better job, not for the social experience anymore, plus im so much older than the students, with loads of experience under my belt, im dreading going back to campus at community college, but will do it for myself. i think i will just be friendly but mostly stick to myself while im there.

High school wasn’t bad.

I enjoyed it for the most part.

Of course, sometimes it felt like the end of the world everyday, but that comes with being a hormone charged teenager.

I didnt like it. My friend was bullied. I stood up for her and thus was mildly bullied as well. After she didnt need me anymore, this friend dropped me though. I didnt understand all the weird covert aggression and gossipping of high school girls.

I was lonely and unnoticed and had about four friends. High school was not fun, I had my moments but I didn’t get to have a girlfriend. Hell, I couldn’t even talk to girls, I guess I can’t blame it on them.

High school was some of the worst years in my life
Didn’t like it one bit.

Being forced to be stuck with people for years in the same room

Whilst suffering from anxiety is going to be traumatic. Like have an impact.

I personally did not enjoy high school, primarily because the high school I attended was not particularly strong academically. My solution was to graduate early and move on.

I was homeschooled the last 2 years of high school.

I enjoyed high school, yeah we were evil but everyone was. I won’t go into how manipulative me and my friends were to one another, but now we look back on it and laugh. Part of being young is being a jerk sadly. Then you grow up and get put in your place.

@TheFountainPen…how was homeschooling comapred to the classroom…did you do it because you were a victim of bullying…i should have done it myslef as school bullies screwed me over

High School wasn’t all that bad, Middle School was worse because I was often bullied there.

Homeschooling was a bit more lonely as going to school. I did it because I was tired of going to school. I just didn’t fit into the structure.
