Did snus damaged your gums

i never used snus but i used tobacco pouches. Its tobbacco or nicotine substance that is in a small bag. you place the pouch under your lip. After a few days/weeks of using it it hurt my gums a lot and made them turn dark

Only used snus a short time before but I’ve heard some horror stories about damaged gums. Are you (considering) using snus?

I use non-tobacco nicotine pouches. I think they count as snus. Not sure of the terminology.

My gums receded more from dip/chew. I’m sure they aren’t in great shape, but I haven’t needed gum surgery or anything yet. I’ve used them for years after switching from cigarettes.

No real pain or discoloration to my gums. A guy once told me after I switched from cigarettes “save your lungs, f___ your gums”. Not ideal, but at least they don’t cause cancer afaik
