So my mh case manager might get me in for dbt group therapy. She said it might not be super applicable for my case but i could learn a thing or two anyway. And it would be good to be in a group setting with other people struggling with mh since i dont see or talk to anyone besides my girlfriend.
Has anyone done any dbt therapy stuff before? What did it help you with? If it did at all?
If I’m not mistaken I remember @LilyoftheValley was doing DBT!?
I’m in a DBT group. I haven’t done it for long, so I can’t speak to its overall effectiveness yet, but I like it so far. It’s been a positive experience.
DBT is focused on learning skills in four main areas: mindfulness, distress tolerance, mood regulation, and interpersonal effectiveness.
Cool thanks. Hope you get some good stuff out of it. Mindfulness cant hurt. I struggle to handle stress, my mood is very flat for a while but i do have the bipolar part of sza so it wont always be that way. Im a bit unsure about interpersonal effectiveness. I definitely lack a lot of social skills though if that will help that.
I did DBT years ago and it helped with my emotional regulation, also helps you change your thoughts about certain situations.
I was in a dbt group once but I was actively psychotic and didn’t tell anyone, they had the wrong diagnosis for me and I couldn’t relate to anyone in the group. But my individual therapists have done some dbt stuff with me too, it is useful for sure for a lot of people. Other interpersonal effectiveness helped me a lot
I did DBT, but quit, because I couldn’t relate to the people taking it with me. The whole group had serious issues with anger. I’m not an angry person. So I stopped going. But I would be willing to try again.
However, I was recently evaluated for mental health services and didn’t qualify because where I go for mental health treatment, they’re currently only accepting people with borderline personality disorder into DBT. But maybe someday in my future.
Currently, I’m being treated for SZ, and complex PTSD.
That was definitely my experience too, everyone in that group was crying or really angry and I was just paranoid.
Yeah. It’s hard to get anything out of it when you’re so differently affected by your issues than the rest of the group
For sure that’s why I prefer individual dbt, but also I hate group therapy anyway. Not super useful for me
Being in the group therapy I’m in currently for ptsd is helpful so far actually. You might benefit from group therapy for some issues but not others
