Apparently I was diagnosed with paranoid schizophrenia on August 22, 2012. I just found this out at my last psychiatrist appointment. They don’t communicate very well…
Wow and to only find this out now is weird what was your diagnosis after that?
I’ve been diagnosed with a lot.
Schizotypal personality disorder
Dissociative disorder NOS
Avoidant Personality disorder
Social Phobia
ADHD
Bipolar 2 disorder (in 2018)
Psychosis NOS
Depression and Anxiety
Alcoholism
Schizophrenia, paranoid type
same here. my pdoc doesn’t go in to details with diagnosis. I only know im paranoid sz from the icd billing code on my bloodwork slip. None of my pdocs ever talked about diagnosis. They try to keep it simple
I like to ask, “What’s my diagnosis?” Conversely, when I go with my gal, I ask her doctor, “What’s her diagnosis?”
@Jayster I did several times and all my current pdoc says is schizophrenia. She never went into specifics
diagnosis is not important , it is mental illness anyway, willingness to accept u r an mentally illed person and taking meds are way more important.
Overall we are just mentally illed people
Schizotypal on the prodromal phase, psychosis NOS, schizoaffective, undifferentiated schizophrenia, paranoid schizophrenia.
Your diagnosis became more serious like an evolution of the disease, do you think that events in your life made your condition worse along the time? I think mine could have an evolution too, but i think if i could deal with traumatic events my diagnosis won’t change and it could be stagant whish would be cool. Sorry my english
Yeah, i was lucky because we caught it in prodromal phase. When I started having mood swings, severe depression, sensitivity to lights and sounds, bizarre ideas etc.
After some weeks voices appeared and first episode of psychosis etc.
A diagnosis is necessary to put on a form to get the system to pay for medicines and visits. On the other hand, doctors treat symptoms with medication.
thy hate to tell this because they thing that sz is wors then caners. this was actually on the news here in Israel that psc say that they hate to be the bad news bringers
@ola are you back in Israel? My diagnoses has been the same as it was in 1972. I’ve been tested a couple times and it comes up the same.
I was having a psychotic break, and the way my doctor acted really affected me.
All the drug tests came negative and the only thing they could think to check because of what I described I was feeling was my heart, and that was fine…so Schizophrenia.
I don’t think I would’ve been forcibly committed if I had a doctor with a better poker face. I looked at him and how sad he was and I didn’t believe the medicine could work, and refused to think about it before looking at alternative treatments.
If I knew I’d turn out like this, I’d be bummed, but not like…shot my dog sad.
Then I became even more loosey goosey and had to be told what to do.
I tell them I want a specific answer. If they dont wanna be honest or forthcoming with you that’s not a good sign. Maybe time to get a new pdoc.
I’ve only had her since June. I’ve had 6 pdocs at the same facility and there all like that
why so picky at specific diagnosis? schizophrenia is just schizophrenia, it is a mental problem. i just see some ppl who want to have so-called specific diagnosis as refusing accepting they are sick.
some ppl who want to have so-called other specific diagnosis that seems a little bit far from the schizophrenia/ the crazy tag, in some sense i see it as a self-comforting behavior, if the meds work then it shows what type of illness are, isn’ it?
The more dx’s the more pills you get. ugh!
I just need a specific diagnosis for my SSDI to be guaranteed. I can’t work full time. I have a part time job and it’s stressful enough. Plus, I think it’s good to know.
schizophrenia is specific enough , i dun think it is such a big spectrum.
