Diagnosed as having psychosis

Hi I got diagnosed as having psychosis last Wednesday as finally got to see a psychiatrist. I’ve been having people come to my home every day since, I’ve also been given olanzapine 5mg to start with. Tomorrow however, the consultant psychiatrist is coming to my home at 10am. Will he try and section me? I don’t really understand what’s going on and all these people are coming in and out. Also I feel like they’re going to be reading this.

Hi,

welcome to our community. Its great to hear you’re seeing a psychiatrist. It sounds like they are just trying to make sure you’re doing well and adjusting to the medications.

It sounds like you are still a little paranoid if you think they might be reading this. Don’t worry - there are millions of people out there who have psychosis and after treatment they generally start to do well.

If you have more questions - there are many people here who have gone through the same experiences and can answer your questions.

I wouldn’t think theyre going to section you. But by the same tiken, a stay in hospital can be a good thing. I tend to like going to psych hospital.

Welcome to this fun little club! I don’t know what the doc is going to say, but just be honest with him if you really want an effective treatment plan. They might put you in the hospital, or they might just monitor you from home to see how the meds are working. Don’t be afraid of whatever they decide for you. Being in the hospital sucks, but sometimes it is necessary until they balance out your meds.

And if, after taking the meds, you notice things getting worse, tell your doc IMMEDIATELY. Especially if you start having suicidal thoughts. Every brain is different, so it might be awhile before they figure out the right meds and dose for you.

It can be overwhelming at the start as you take it all in. Just play it by ear for the moment and ask lots of questions. Most of us repeat the mantra baby steps. Meaning:- to take things slow to move forward.

Don’t be worried to much on the hospital/. If you need it you need it. They can be quite fun places to go. Just a place to relax, recuperate and heal.

Thank you I just have 4 kids and live alone, I can’t go back to work yet occupational health say, and since them people came today and told me about consultant coming to my house tomorrow hallucinations started again. Can being stressed make them worse? I’ve been less agitated since taking olanzapine. I think all this was started by taking sertraline but it continued and got worse since I stopp taking them. It’s all very confusing at the moment.

I doubt they would hospitalize you unless they saw you as a danger to self or others, hon. But either way, welcome! If you have any questions or concerns, don’t hesitate to talk to me, I’m a good listener, and I will try to help anyway I can!

and stress CAN make hallucinations worse, just make sure you don’t listen to them, okay?

Yes. Stress is a big trigger for all mental disorder symptoms.

The idea is to learn ways to de-stress and reduce stress to reduce symptoms.

But one thing at the time at the moment.

Which funnily enough will help with the stress and any symptoms atm.

Here is a real place where you can talk about what you are experiencing, your meds, your therapy, and who you are without shame, guilt, or anything bad happening to you. I love this place. I get lots of good help here. Welcome. As I say to everyone, if you need something, just holler. I even tell my beloved feline that; but, she meows loudly especially when she is hungry. Good luck to you. People love you here like nowhere else!

She didn’t section me thankfully, but she upped medication to 10mg olanzapine a day. But I don’t think she listened to what I was saying and it made me so stressed. She couldn’t answer me when I asked how long I have to take this stuff.

The reason she didn’t answer you is probably because she didn’t want to overwhelm you by saying forever. You’ll probably need medication for the rest of your life.

I hope not. When this makes me feel better surely I can come off it.

I hate to break it to you, but you likely will need medication for the rest of your life. It took me six months to come to terms with that fact, I hope you can cope with it better than I did.

And keep in mind that there is no cure yet, only treatments. And be prepared for side effects.

I’m terribly sorry that this has happened to you. Just know that you are far from alone. Everyone on here has a story, and I know a couple of guys who have my illness in person through mutual friends.

At least you know you have psychosis. That’s better then anosognosia (not even being aware that what is happening isn’t real).

I’m sorry to hear you’ve suffered :disappointed: it all sounds very sad. Hopefully I’ll at least be able to get back to work and normality to some extent

Was your psychosis brought on by street drug abuse? If so you probably could use some"B" vitamins and a balance of the fatty acids 3,6and 9 that is Fish ,Flack seed and Borage oils along with the medications and 500mg a day vitamin “C”. Our bodies are discovered to not having a deficiency of these and other vitamins and minerals but we just need more of them.
Xenobiotics’ ( man made chemical compounds) or meds, use up a lot of vitamin “C” I have this information from a book I read by the late DR. Abram Hoffer. Who also stated that Intervention while in the early stages of developing this disorder stand a better chance of not developing into a full blown psychoses later on. He clearly stated that the vitamins were to be used as adjuncts(along with) to the medications and not as a cure alone. I especially noticed that I will feel worse if and when I run out of the essential fatty acids for a few days. But you should talk to your doctor about this to be sure.
