Does anyone on this site suffer from depression?
if so could you recommend an anti-depressant please.
thanks
I get depression realy bad about every 10 years not sure why though, it last for about 2 years, I’m on Abilify so far ir seems to be staying away, been over the 10 year mark, but with me I never know whats around the corner.
@Mountainman thanks, every ten years? consider yourself lucky. Ive got more than just a case of the blues. Ive heard that Abilify works well, maybe ill give it a try. The latuda is supposed to help with depression but I needs to be on an anti depressant too. Any suggestions?
Best I could find on it
I’m schizoaffective and abilify helps my mood disorder.
thanks @turningthepage. already started lamictal I think I have the same dx.
I have schizoaffective disorder depressive type. and I find celexa made me manic, Lexapro helped but the old pdoc took me off of it for some strange reason. now i’m on lithium and amitriptyline.
thanks @cbbrown. are you able to get away without taking an atypical?
no I take a typical ap and an atypical ap. I take Haldol and latuda. they didn’t help with the depression.
thanks

I take 30mg of lexapro alongside my ap. The lexapro lifted me out of a suicidal depression.
Thanks @turte i might look into that one, need something soon.
I suffer from depression, and a combination of lithium and Latuda took care of that.
I like that my meds can multitask on psychosis and depression and mania all at once; the joys of being schizoaffective
I’m thinking about a med change again too.
I’m currently on Saphris 20mg, Lamictal 200mg and Wellbutrin 300mg. I saw some improvement with the Lamictal but no change with addition of the Wellbutrin except maybe my sex drive improved some. The ones I’ve been researching to talk to my pdoc about switching the Wellbutrin to are Viibryd, Effexor or Elavil. I chose these three because I haven’t tried them and of their low side effect profiles. Well I have taken Effexor in the past but I can’t remember if it worked, I stopped taking it probably because I either thought I was cured or didn’t have a problem.
Any Thoughts? @Wave any thoughts on the combination with Lamictal with these 3 meds? Have you tried any of these?
Yea I take lamictal too. It helps but it has lots of side effects compared to typical antidepressants. Not sure if it prevents the mania associated with ssri use.
Only time will tell. I have tried viibryd it’s an excellent med with some strong side effects. Stronger than your average antidepressant. Have not tried Effexor or ellaville.
What side effects did you have with Viibryd?
I don’t want to discourage you, I have a friend that’s on it and she loves it. I had some until weight gain (rapid weight gain like water weight) and physical symptoms like aches, pains and muscle stiffness. I was running a lot at the time and had zero tolerance for weight gain, if I needed it now things might be different I guess. The first night I took it though I noticed an improvement In My anxious depression that was pretty amazing, then the drug just petered out on me. Hope that helps.
Ja I have psychotic depression. I dunno how well other people recommending ADs will go because everyone has such different experiences with them. Lexapro was a nightmare for me, gave me bad anxiety and panic attacks. Zoloft worked great but gives me intolerable urinary retention. Pick your poison ;_; Hoping you find one that works well for you with tolerable side effects! They can really make a world of difference
Thanks @Anna. I had a conversation with someone last night who told me they take Zoloft, and seemed to be really positive about it. I too tried lexapro and it made me gain weight and really caused fatigue. I currently have a love hate relationship with Prozac. Ive found it to have the least side effects except for some minor weight gain and drowsiness.
I need an ad badly for OCD and intrusive thoughts. Unfortunately I’ve had to get on lamictal too before I could take one. So I’m just now able to up the dose of the AD. The waiting game is one of the toughest parts.
Too true. It took quite a while for Zoloft to start working for me. All worth it once it kicks in though! Good luck to you
