Both seem similar, both cause hallucinations but I think delirium is more extreme and can be lifethreatening, also our meds aps don’t work for dementia psychosis
Isn’t delirium a degenerative disease that comes with age?
Where did you read that?
I read they don’t use dopamine dopamine blockers as they make them worse. Parkinson psychosis is caused by a lack of dopamine, in sz its an excess of dopamine in a part of the brain striatum, i will post link
Some of the more common causes include:
- Advanced cancer.
- Alcohol or drugs, either from intoxication or withdrawal. …
- Dehydration and electrolyte imbalances.
- Dementia.
- Hospitalization, especially in intensive care.
- Infections, such as urinary tract infections, pneumonia, and the flu.
- Medicines. …
- Metabolic disorders.
NUPLAZID is the only medicine approved to treat hallucinations and delusions associated with Parkinson’s disease (PD)
My grandfather died of dementia. It’s a very sad illness. I hope I don’t get it.
@Aziz did the doctor up your dose?
Yes to 3mg risperidone
I always thought that parkisons related psychosis is a side effect of them taking l dopa!
I’m sorry.
My great-grandma on my moms side had dementia in her final years. She lived to 99!
I feel you on that one. I hope I don’t get it in the future, i’ve had tons of concussions.
Both causes psychosis, the disease and the meds but the ldopa doesn’t cause psychosis in everyone taking it.
Nuplazid doesn’t affect dopamine but it affects serotonin
Where did you read that the parkisons disease itself causes psychosis?
Medication, dementia and delirium are the three main contributors to the development of psychosis in Parkinson’s disease.
I find it weird their psychosis med doesn’t work for us as it doesn’t block dopamine receptors.
Yea that’s interesting. Perhaps it’s two different mechanisms of psychosis or such
