Damm It. I got another summons for jury duty!

Why me? The last time the trial was for a guy charged with two counts of statutory rape of a person under the age of 14.

I guess I’ll have do my duty again.

I’ll tell the Judge I have Sz but take medication for it. I smoked cigarettes the last time, and they don’t give any smoke breaks, so this time it shouldn’t be so bad. They didn’t excuse me the last time because mentally incompetent people here aren’t allowed to register to vote. This isn’t with the Federal government, but with Pulaski County.

In which country you are living. Do the government take care of mental ill person.

I’m in Arkansas USA. Registered voters here have to serve on juries for trials of people or organizations. Your job is to find if they’re guilty or innocent. In Arkansas, the jury decides what the punishment is, but not all states do this. You can do stuff like find them guilty but sentence them to pay a fine of $1.

In Arkansas mentally incompetent people aren’t allowed to register to vote. In the USA it varies by which state you live in.

I would say the government doesn’t care for the mentally ill here. If they determine you are disabled because of your illness you get money and health insurance each month, but that’s about it. You have to pay doctors and such according to your health insurance policy.

Every time I got jury duty I got out of it because I was in the military. California signed me up a couple of times. Can’t play that card anymore.

Do what I do. Tell them you don’t need to pay attention to the trial proceedings - you can tell if someone is guilty just by looking at them.

Very true and agreed.

Will not get your thread lock for a political discussion though.

Caring and hiring are different things.

They don’t want people with psychotic disorders serving as jurors.

I’m pretty sure it’s not allowed.

My high school civics teacher told us to do nearly exactly that.

Pay me a judge’s, prosecutor, defense attorney, and (if applicable) criminal income fee to do with a solid mind and render a sorta fair verdict.

I live in Arkansas and have been called twice for jury duty. Never had to serve. I just tell them I have schizophrenia and wouldn’t be able to focus or follow what’s going on. Which is true from what I’ve experienced in meetings or speaker events

I got jury duty when I was 18 or so and I said I didnt wanna do it because I would find it too stressful as someone who had MH issues. They let me off. (Im in the UK)

The last summons for jury duty I got had a questionnaire in it. The questionnaire asked if there was anything I wanted to tell them that would not stop me from serving jury duty. I wrote, I have schizophrenia. When it came time to call and see if I was to report to jury the following week it said my jury duty was over. I assumed that they possibly decided not to have me serve on the jury because I had schizophrenia.

Thanks. I’m a little paranoid about them disqualifying me from voting if I told them I have Sz. I want to vote in the special city election about renewing the property tax millage rate, but let’s not turn this political.

I’ve been summoned 4 or 5 times; I played the schizophrenia card each time and got out of it. I have no desire to sit on a jury.

I did not want to do jury duty either. The jury duty case I was contacted about was an hour away. I’d rather go to work and earn a paycheck than drive all that way for something I have no interest in for little money. I played the schizophrenia card and got out. I was hoping it would work. I plan on doing that any time I’m contacted for jury duty.

Supposedly, you can fill out a form that gets you out of it for life. I filled one out but they summoned me two years later.

That stinks they contacted you again. I’ve been contacted for jury duty three times in the last decade. Why me? Anyway, I never had to serve. The closest I got to serving was I actually went to the courthouse and all of us jurors were dismissed before we were called in.

Edited: I didn’t have a diagnosis until 2020. So, I was able to say I have schizophrenia only the last time I was contacted for jury duty.

I think I could handle jury duty but now I have to fill vending machines every other day. That’s the only reason I would try to get out of it now.
