Dam, my email address went viral

I am getting all this junk mail. I have to change my email address again, does anybody has a different solution?

Yeah, use gmail and don’t sign up for things. Gmail has different inboxes for spam, promotions, socials, and updates.

I know what you mean. I’m changing my email address frequently too. Gmail is good about changing then later deleting your old address.

You can always unsubscribe from the mailing list instead of changing your email address

Edit Most JUNK mail messages you get have an option to unsubscribe

True for the legit ones anyway.

Unsubscribe - down below every email at the bottom.

Keeps email manageable - using the same email for 15 years.

Some people use a 2nd email for non-important internet browsing accounts.

Unfortunately what this means is that by unsubscribing you’re validating your email. That increases its value and it is sold with higher value.

My email service is really good at catching and dumping junk mail. I rarely look at that folder - its mostly overseas viagra - phishing scam emails.

I hear you. Apparently 98% of the emails hitting our servers at work are unsolicited messages (mostly commercial) and almost 3% of those are phishing and social engineering attempts. The volume of crap mail is so high that they had to outsource to Microsoft’s Outlook service as they have the network and security capacity to cope with this that we don’t.

I remember in the 80’s and 90’s our letterbox was full with junkmail. All this waste on paper and these days its datawaste.

I have had the same email address since 1995. I have to delete about 30 or so an hour. And half of them go to spam.

If you want to see if an email address has been compromised in a cyberattack, you can check haveibeenpwned.com. At this website you can enter an email address and see a list of all known data breaches tied to that email address.

In gmail you can report spam. Or move emails to the spam folder. Gmail will then automatically know and send future emails from that source to your spam folder.

I haven’t had to change my email address in 15 years!
