what are the stereotypical symptoms? I have never done “stimming” or lining toys in a row or something like that. female btw
Well, where I’m from, most mental health professionals only judge you by the stereotypical symptoms. And those are mostly found in males.
Like poor communication skills or an outright lack of desire for social interactions, odd fixations like being unusually fascinated by trains, skilled at maths, etc.
is there any research behind why are those mostly found in males? Also, if those are stereotypical symptoms, I have poor communication skills and I am skilled at math and I have odd fixations (not trains though, lol) so 3 out of 3… guess im not a typical autistic female then
I read some articles about how people born female, due to the way society treats us, are forced to work harder at masking their symtoms and learning to seem normal.
There are more guys than girls with autism, so most people only know about autism symptoms you see in guys.
High functioning = verbally very intelligent may be true for the majority, but it’s not for a minority of us. The tendency even among mental health professionals is to think you’re being bolshy/deliberately obstructive/lazy if you don’t match up to how you do verbally. That means you don’t get the help you need when it could make the most positive difference.
I don’t know about other countries but cognitive testing is very limited in the UK if you’re perceived to be a patient with at least average intelligence. For me it was forward digit recall and count down in groups of 7 from 100 way back in 1975!
They did IQ testing for a differential diagnosis back when I was 5 and they did IQ testing recently because I wanted to see what my abilities were (in the “superior” category but it doesnt really matter)
I am not verbally very intelligent. I am average, as demonstrated by the IQ test. Being able to talk does not mean you are verbally intelligent.
Anyway, I talked to a nurse and they just said if I don’t take my meds my condition would worsen.
I still wonder what were the delusions caused by
Is it possible for a healthy person to have a couple of delusions?
Delusions are things that are impossible to happen in real life.
So no a normal person can’t have genuine delusions
So my case wasn’t a delusion because it’s possible to happen? Doubt it.
Being killed is possible, being spied on is possible etc…
” Delusional disorder is characterized by irrational or intense belief(s) or suspicion(s) which a person believes to be true. These beliefs may seem outlandish and impossible (bizarre) or fit within the realm of what is possible (non-bizarre).”
Its impossible that your parents poisoning your food. Its impossible that you’re spied bcz you’re not an undercover agent or spy etc
non bizarre delusions exist as you know
They’re still impossible. Being followed by the FBI is non bizarre but impossible since you’re not an undercover agent or a spy.
For others it might be possible but for the sufferer its impossible.
I don’t believe in being followed by FBI but i see
No parents in the world would poison their child, its impossible.
There have been some cases though
I don’t believe in the delusion anymore though but a mother poisoned her baby with strong antipsychotics
I was going to say that but that’s extremely rare and that’s bcz the parents have a severe mental illness or mental disability.
