My bank just sent me one. They won’t give me a normal one, I already asked. Doesn’t the microchip make it so people can steal your identity with RFID readers? And I can’t get over the thought that it has a GPS in it and stalkers will be able to track me. Can someone tell me if that is actually possible? I’m having trouble trusting this thing. I still have my cell phone from like 2007 because it doesn’t have a GPS. I know they can still see what cell tower my call is coming from, but they can’t narrow it down to an address.
In today’s world, I’m having trouble differentiating between good common sense and delusional thinking. I mean, this is a society where most people let strangers see them naked before getting on an airplane. Most people voluntarily carry around a tracking device with a camera and a microphone that can be accessed remotely. So, in this society, is it delusional to be afraid of a credit card with a microchip?
It’s just a little paranoia. It gets to me too, but if you really think about it, there is no reason for someone to steal your identity.

I wouldn’t worry about it. If your information is stole, then you can simply call and notify the credit card company and they’ll remove the charges. The cards with chips on them are supposed to be more secure than the older credit cards, hence the reason they’re paying billions for upgrading the cards.
people’s identities get stolen all the time. I have really good credit.
How does that work? Do you just use the honor system, or do you have to prove your identity was stolen first? I make a lot of weird purchases and I travel a lot, so an out-of-state purchase wouldn’t necessarily flag me.
As long as you report your card stolen soon enough, they’ll look into it and remove the charges. They look for unusual purchases, such as out of state purchases. From my experience, credit card companies are very good about removing fraudulent purchases. Debit cards on the other hand, you’re sh*t out of luck if your information gets stolen.
Oh ■■■■, mine is a debit card that can be used as a credit card too. Why don’t those charges get taken away?
From my understanding debit card charges come straight from your bank account, once the money is gone, you’re not going to get it back. With credit it’s someone elses money that is stolen, they likely have insurance for fraudulent purchases, while I’m assuming you probably don’t have insurance on the money in your bank account.
I don’t carry debit cards because of this reason. Plus, you get cashback and reward points on using most credit cards, so it’s senseless not using them as long as you’re disciplined enough to pay them off every month.
You might wanna check with an expert about what I said though, I’m not 100% positive on all of it.
Yikes, I was hoping people would make me feel better, not worse! But I guess it is better to be informed. I will look into all of that.
