They are not adjusted. They are based on the detected cases. Unless the virus mutates to a deadlier one, that number will likely shrink a lot over time, and will then still be an overestimation of the actual mortality rate.
Yes, I never said the second site wasnāt adjustedā¦
???
None of the numbers youāve mentioned are adequately adjusted. They are not estimations of the actual mortality rate.
āTo get a rate, you need the deaths ā which you can more reliably pick up ā and you need cases, which you can less reliably pick up. Itās not irresponsible to come out with that number, but it should have been more clearly interpreted as not being reliable, or at least mention itāll vary in regions.ā
From the source
So you think that saying nearly double the amount of cases might be out there just not recorded is not adjusted enough? Your not listening.
I am. Are you reading any of this? Itās right there in your sources. They are both based only on the detected cases, i.e. unadjusted, and the first link you posted is even mostly about how that 3.4% number is likely way too high. The link I posted way up there explains all of this. Please read it.
The guy is not saying the 3.4% is wrong heās saying that a lot of the numbers are wrong. I think I would rather take numbers from the WHO than some random guy.
They obviously took that into account. I just think you need to be ready that a lot of people might die. Itās no good getting an unrealistic outlook on something that is going to happen.
The guy is literally saying that the actual mortality rate is likely between 0.5% and 2% because the 3.4% is not an estimation of the mortality rate, but the current number of deaths based on currently detected cases. The 6% number is higher because those cases are closed, i.e. it is adjusted for delay. Most cases present with mild cold-like symptoms, and are difficult to detect because people donāt seek medical help for such symptoms.
Trusting WHO is fine, but they have not claimed that that number is an estimation of the mortality rate. They are a reliable source, but not if you misunderstand what theyāre saying.
Whatever. I just donāt see the point in being optimistic rather than realistic. You know were not going to agree with each other.
Iām wondering about all those people that are not showing any symptoms.
I could have the Coronavirus and not even know it!
I have some sort of sinus issues and havenāt been feeling the greatest these past couple of days.
Maybe I have a very mild case of it?
Wish the tests were available to everyone
if youāre having sniffles, itās a good idea to wear a mask around your father, and remember to wash your hands and not touch your face. Itās possible you have a mild case of ANY disease that would hit an elderly person much harder.
No sniffles and we are both frequently washing our hands.
The masks we ordered online havenāt arrived here yet.
There are shortages of masks and things like hand sanitizer
You should be fine if you arenāt coughing or sneezing.
Do you think these tips may help?
-
wash hands thoroughly or use alcohol hand cleanser
-
wearing gloves may help
-
donāt touch the face if possible
-
if you think you have caught it phone your gp and ask for advice instead of going in.
-
you may have to get food delivered and stay in for a while until better,
-
if you need an ambulance then tell then when you phone let them know you may have the virus and have been self isolating bc of it.
i think the longest you can have the virus is 14 days and te virus can stay active for up to 48hrs on hard surfaces.
this is just from what i know so far,
just found that gloves are not recommended,
- carrying tissues and catching sneezes or coughs and binning the tissue can help and then washing hands.
- staying 3 feet away from anyone who is coughing or sneezing is recommended (easier said than done)
itās a worrying situation for many of us whether mentally ill or not . The truth is weāre all lay people when it comes to knowledge about the coronavirus ,gathering our info from a variety of sources .
Now is not the time for belittling people because they are anxious . Thatās not the intelligent approach to take.
