Considering Lithium

Hey everyone. I’m considering requesting lithium along with my asenapine, which is an AP, instead of the olanzapine I’m currently taking.

So far, olanzapine is making me tired, but not touching my irritability, or aggression.

I see my pdoc Thursday. I’m going to ask for her advice on if I should continue waiting for olanzapine to help, or try something like lithium.

When my pdoc prescribed olanzapine, she said I would notice it lessening my aggression within a week if it’s going to help me. It hasn’t.

If all else fails, I’ll have to stop the asenapine.

I’m sorry to hear Olanzapine isnt helping you.

I’m on it too, it helps with my paranoia but im scared of the insomnia it gives you when you get off of it. I’ll probably be on it for the rest of my life.

@TheCanuk , I’ve only been on it less than a month. I wonder if it’ll cause me insomnia to fry off it already, or if one needs to be on it longer for that to happen

It’s very individual if and when it causes insomnia. I could sleep without it about 7 years in before I got problems, but I read about people getting problems after using it only a few weeks even at 2.5mg when trying to quit.

I take lithium orotate 1mg every other day for mood. I think it helps even at this minimal dose.

Lithium carbonate which the doctors are prescribing…I have the impression it’s a ordeal for the body, at least in the long run. I would explore natural remedies like vitamins first at least.
