Comparing yourself to others

We’re not supposed to do it but sometimes we do anyways. I guess we all like to think we’re equal to anybody else or as good as. But don’t sometimes you just have to marvel and appreciate what your fellow man or woman has accomplished?

I mean it’s popular on here to bash celebrities and say what idiots a lot of them are or what horrible people they are. But taking an example, look at Tom Cruise. We may want to be equal and put him down but look at what he’s accomplished. He’s just a man like the rest of us but could you accomplish a fraction of what he’s accomplished? Whether you like him or hate him, whether you like movies in general or not, you have to give him credit for what he’s done. Would someone pay you a million dollars to star in Top Gun? Would anyone depend on you or trust you or invest millions of dollars for you to carry a movie? You got to give him credit.

And there’s millions of other examples. Look at Mike Tyson. We may think we’re equal but we couldn’t last 20 seconds in the ring with him. And he fought. 50 fights or something. His life is unbelievable. He’s gone through millions of dollars and had hundreds of women. This is why I admire celebrities. It’s hard for me to make it through a day of vacuuming and emptying trash. I’m not going to put myself down but my life doesn’t compare to so many people. And yes, some celebrities are scumbags but not all of them. There’s plenty of genuinely nice, successful people. I don’t know. I’m just in awe of what some individuals can accomplish.

Yeah I agree, some people accomplish a lot but our worth as human beings is not only based on fame and fortune.

Tom cruise is a controversial one with his personal life and rumors. But he has done some crazy stuff. He learned how to fly a helicopter for an actual helicopter stunt for one of the mission impossibles. Dude is fearless. I’ve also heard people diagnose him with psychothapy. Christian Bale stated that for American Psycho he got his idea for the empty smile and charm or something like that from Tom Cruise’s appearance on Oprah and other stuff. He said there was a lot of expression and emoting but nothing behind his eyes. I thought that was funny. But yeah there are pretty incredible people that do incredible things. Hell I watch YouTube shorts for a bit and there’s all kinds of unbelievable things that people are capable of. Makes me feel insufficient.

Thanks @Jayster!

I find myself comparing myself to others… not famous people tho, they are on a different level. But like with people I went to school with and stuff🤷‍♀️ can’t help it.

I get jealous of people sometimes because of their success and think that I’m insignificant, and small compared to them. It’s not all the time but it happens.

Every great person knows he got a lot of help along the way.

I don’t know.

If I won a contest for a day with a celebrity, I would most likely try to sell it for cash. lol. Most of them don’t really thrill me. Not my cup of tea.

Been trying to think of someone I do admire for an example for this post and I came up with this: There was a school teacher in the news tonight who was shot by a 6 year old. She got all her students to safety before going to the hospital then collapsed before being taken to the hospital. At the hospital, I believe the first thing she asked they said was “How are my kids?”.

Someone like this is somewhere more in the area of someone I would hold up to admire. As you said, not really a good idea to do a lot of comparing to other people, but if you are going to compare and ask, “do I stack up?”, this is a better example to me.

This is someone to emulate IMO.

Idk. Nothing wrong with being a celebrity, but it is does not automatically earn my respect and I don’t really care to be like many of them.
