Anyone ever had one? What should I expect? I’ve been having pretty bad stomach pain, nausea and diarrhea. I’m going to consult with a surgeon Tuesday next week about the procedure. They say I may have IBD, but didn’t specify the reason for the colonoscopy. I’m 27 years old.
I have had two colonoscopies…both saved my life…they put you out and next thing you know you’re done…worst part is drinking that juice they give you the day before and not being able to eat a whole day and night…good luck.
Thanks for the reply. I’m a little apprehensive about the anasthesia. I’ve never been put under. And having past trauma the thought of being unconscious while someone’s in that general area is terrifying.
I have never had a colonoscopy, but basically (according to my father) you will get a shot that puts you in deep sleep, and they will also prescribe you pain medicine as well. You just sleep for a while and wake up in a resting room/waiting room.
It should be fairly painless. You’ll be ok!
I’ve had two colonoscopies. One of them I was unconscious for, and the other I wasn’t. Neither one was bad, but I imagine that how painful a colonoscopy is varies from person to person. If they think you are going to suffer during the procedure they will probably put you out.
I agree with @jukebox the hard part is the prep, drinking the fluids, having the diarrhea and fasting. The procedure is easy because they give you sleepy meds that knock you out. I could see how past trauma would complicate your feelings, but try to remember this is an important medical procedure done by medical professionals. They are not getting their kicks, just doing their jobs. I was really anxious before I had mine, but it turned out easy. You’ll do fine.
It’s an unpleasant procedure but the give you twilight sleep so you don’t feel weird that you literally have something up your butt.
I would hate to go for this op.
Sounds terrible
Do they do this if they suspect colon cancer ?
Ive had 4 colonoscopies, the worst part is the prep the day before, you drink a laxative and your pooping all day long I would recommend getting some soft wipes it will make it easier on you. Try not to drink anything acidic the night before. Good luck.
