Cognitive decline/ Parkinson’s?

I have been slowing down, forgetting words, slurring my speech, moving slowly, my hands shake a bit when I eat with a utensil.

What the f*ck has happened to me?

My movements are slower, my gait is a bit unsteady.

Could this be drug induced Parkinson’s?
Dementia?

My brother tells me that my cognition is slipping.

He notices the difference over the years.

I went from being an outgoing person with above average intelligence in the past to a mumbling stumbling idiot today.

I don’t know what to do?

Who is going to take care of me in a few years when I become a vegetable?

I don’t qualify for Medicaid and can’t afford a Nursing Home.

Have you checked the side effects of the meds you’re taking? Cognitive impairment could be a side effect like with benzos.

If you’re worried then get professional advice from your psychiatrist though.

I have Parkinsonism from various APs. I don’t think it progresses like actual Parkinson’s. It’s the drug mimicking actual Parkinson’s.

You need to see both your pdoc and primary dr as soon as possible.

It could be the Lamictal I’m on or Klonopin I take?

I’ve been on powerful psych meds all my life but I think the damage is done.

I don’t think my condition can be reversed honestly.

It’s f*cking brain damage

I’m sorry @Mars
What are the symptoms of drug induced Parkinson’s?

What do you go through everyday?

The main symptoms are resting tremors and muscle stiffness for me. It doesn’t bother me too much. I just tolerate it so I can stay on my AP. Cogentin also helps.

Sorry to hear, but i can relate. A couple of years ago i read complex philosophy, was outgoing, concerts, nightclubs, i was writing novels (that got rejected though).

Today i mostly watch television and find it hard to read a book.

Some of my decline is due to aging, some is a symptom of burnout after a long life as a schizotypal.

I’m sorry @bluebutterfly

Yeah I’m thinking that some of it is due to aging as well, but it’s mainly because of long term med use.

Uh, sad to hear and a bit worried. I have been on meds for the last 30 years.

Can you request a physical and cognitive evaluation? That may help you sort out if what you’re experiencing is from normal aging or something else.

The first thing we noticed with my late granddad that ended up being indicative of his Parkinson’s was what the doctors call the “Parkinson’s Mask.” As in, he had a blank expression on his face most of the time regardless of his mood. His mouth was usually slightly ajar as well.

I think Moonbeam has the right idea, you should go get evaluated. The right medicine could potentially help if you do have something wrong.

I know you’ve said you think the APs have damaged you, but they prescribed my granddad Zyprexa for his Parkinson’s delusions and it helped immensely. If APs caused damage how do you explain that? I mean he didn’t take them for a long time prior though I guess. Zyprexa happens to be what I take to keep my delusions away too.

Also, the Parkinsons shuffle – its a characteristic shuffling gait.

If your hands shake when you’re trying to use them it could be many things including essential tremor (which I’m developing). Parkinson’s is unlikely as your hands would tremble when you’re NOT using them.

Thanks everyone, reading into what @shutterbug and @Ale posted, it could be tremors unaffiliated from Parkinson’s.

What @Ale posted especially resonates with me because I am on both Depakote and Lamictal
