I’m going inpatient next week for them to start me on clozapine and to stop my olanzapine. Anyone who is on clozapine how has it helped for you and what side effects? Thanks

I’m on clozapine. I’ve been on it for 6 years or so and it has worked extremely well. It hasn’t helped so far with my delusions but it makes me feel so much better and also helps me recognize what is real or imaginary.

When I was on Clozapine 3 decades ago it simply blew my psychosis to hell. Damm good medication if you can tolerate the side effects.

The only side effect I felt was sleepiness, so I only take it at night

Side effects for me: went from 110 pounds to 170 in 6 months. Developed severe tachycardia which made me short of breath even climbing a few stairs. Drooled so much in my sleep i choked on it and threw up in my sleep. Felt dull and depressed. I took it for about 7 months before i gave up on it. I didn’t work any better than the other drugs for me and also made me feel dull and depressed.

It makes me want to eat and sleep all the time, and I salivate constantly…but it’s been great for my voices and since I’ve been on it I don’t want to self harm anymore and I don’t spend all my time thinking about suicide. I also use sublingual atropine drops to dry up the saliva. I’ve been on it about 1.5 years now. Before I was on it I was in the hospital a lot, but last year I was only in the H a total of 7 days, a huge improvement for me.

Good luck with the titration
I started it beginning of January this year
Was in the hospital for 12 days, and because I didn’t like the environment, I was able to finish titrating at home with the crisis home treatment team we have
At the moment I am up to 300mg per day. Plan is next week to increase it by 25mg and extend it as appropriate
It seems to be doing a half decent job
Side effect wise I wet the bed a few times during the raising of the dose, but it has gone away now my body is used to it
Other side effects I have had is too much saliva and also dry mouth
Nausea, dizziness and feeling a bit faint from it has persisted, but I am hopeful they’re only temporary

I’ve been Clozapine for months now. Idk if it’s helped me (I’m still “delusional”), but the side effects I’ve felt from it are feeling out of it 50 minutes after taking it, drooling while sleeping, and “addiction” to it.
