Clozapine and Olanzapine

Olanzapine never worked for my psychosis. Dr said its similar to Clozapine but I can still try Clozapine. Both end with -zapine. Will Clozapine work given that Olanzapine did not work?

I don’t think the name indicates that they are familiar.

Clozapine, is that a first generation AP? I heard it’s easy to get TD on them.

No, Clozapine is one of the new atypical APs. It is supposed to have a low incidence of TD.
The two drugs are similar molecularly, but have different clinical results.

Do not be afraid of TD, i first got it on haloperidol and was put on invega. On invega i didnt use anything and then I was put on haloperidol, dont use any anti parkinsons agents, just have some drooling, which is common with typical APs

I’ve taken both. Zyprexa didn’t do much for me. I took 30 mg. Clozapine makes me sleep long, so I’m more well rested. The most I’ve taken is 400 mg. Now, I just take 12.5 mg for sleep (and Invega as an ap). For me they were 2 entirely different drugs.

I think long acting antipsychotics are the best.
I only have a shot every two weeks and that’s the only AP that I take. I also take lithium two times a day.
No side effects. No symptoms. Life’s going well.
I think if you don’t have extrapyramidal symptoms, typical APs are superior than atypical APs. Typical APs don’t cause metabolic syndrome. or have a very little effect. If you get type two diabetes it almost can’t be reversed.

Haldol is the best I think. 50 mg/ml

No its 2nd gen.

Before moving into hard-core AP, I would give a shot to antidepressants like SSRI, its even prescribed even if you dont havr depression to fight against low motivation and anhedonia
