Cbt really does work

cbt really does work for me, with the right meds and dose you can learn to improve your behaviours, like since i switched my med 5 years ago i have been doing cbt with my self, pushing myself further and further, testing my limits and boundaries, doing things that i never thought i was capable of,

it just goes to show that with the right enviroment and conditions that anything is possible esp with the right med(S) and dose x

hope you are well :+1:

Describe what you do in cbt

well recently i have started to exercise more and i have been walking a little bit each time and going further each time and things like that and also the gym like in the gym i have been using the machines and pushing myself further (within my limits) i have been getting comfortable with walking a little bit longer and a little bit quicker etc,

when i started out 5 years ago when i started to improve i was just going out to the shops with sweep and watching the shops open up and having a snack, i didnt last long though before i felt outside my comfort zone and it was always a struggle to get back home before i fell apart, also i was very uncomfortable around people and that has changed, i would go to the shops with sweep and just watch people and what they do, after a while i realized that they dont care much about us all they care about is themselves mostly and so i felt a bit better about that,

it takes time but i guess you need the right med(S) and dose and a strong will to improve and thats what i have gotten from this site forum, has helped a lot.

Same thing isn’t it?

No not what I remember from school.

how does cbt apply to schizophrenia…bevcause I get stressed with voices…and find it hard to do anything…

I think cbt can come after becoming stable enough on meds,

@saphire2014 whats the difference betweem cbt and exposure therapy then?

Id like to know the difference as well between CBT and exposure therapy Ill look it up.

From what I gather exposure therapy is a tactic of CBT or cognitive behavioral psychological techniques, to deal with PTSD trauma and could also be beneficial.

Exposure therapy is a type of cognitive-behavioral therapy. Exposure therapy reduces the physical or emotional distress you experience when confronted with a particular object, situation, or distressing thought or memory. During exposure therapy counseling, you may relive a traumatic experience, confront a feared object or situation, or deal with a distressing thought while in a controlled environment.

During this type of therapy, a counselor helps you while you remember or visualize the feared object or distressing thought. The counselor also helps you work through the physical and emotional distress that may occur during this experience. Confronting and learning to cope with the distressing feelings gradually reduces your symptoms.

Activities during exposure therapy vary, depending on the fear, distressing thought, or traumatic experience. Hypnosis and virtual reality are sometimes used. Typically during this type of therapy, you are encouraged to:

Talk about your fears, thoughts, or feelings of distress.
Learn ways to face the fear, handle the thoughts, or deal with the physical and emotional distress.
View your fear, distressing thought, or physical and emotional feelings of distress in a different way.

In exposure therapy you are introduced to the stimulus gradually for greater and greater times with each encounter. You are encourage to practice relaxation techniques and set mini goals.

CBT as I remember it is looking at faulty thinking patterns and developing new patterns of thought to replace them, practice replacing them, and breaking down the negative thought so that you do not have them anymore.

I used cbt about 20 years ago when I was depressed and lonely and it really worked for me too. I was living with parents in another country and cbt helped improve my mood and confidence and I was able to make friends and socialise
